Best Non MLM Essential Oil Brands

When it comes to choosing an essential oil brand, please don’t think you have to join an MLM company to buy high-quality essential oils.

There are actually several amazing non-MLM essential oil brands to choose from. Unfortunately, it took me a while to figure that out.

I am not a doctor and the statements on this blog have not been evaluated by the FDA. Products mentioned here are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. When I first started using essential oils, I joined an MLM because someone convinced me their essential oils were the best and superior to other brands.

Eventually, I figured out that just wasn’t true, but I still cringe whenever I think about how much money I spent on essential oils during that time.

MLM brand essential oils are significantly more expensive than most of the non-MLM brands. Not all, but most.

I could have saved a ton of money if I knew then what I know now. So that is why I wanted to share with you the best non-MLM essential oil brands.

But before I do, let’s discuss what exactly an MLM is.

What is an MLM Company?

According to Webster’s Dictionary, an MLM is a “business structure or practice in which an individual seller earns commissions both from direct sales and from the sales of the seller’s recruits, of those recruited by the seller’s recruits, and so on”.

You can click here to read more about MLMs.

Some have claimed that as much as 60% of the price of MLM brand essential oils goes to the upline distributors.

I don’t know if that is true, but I do know that MLM brand essential oils are crazy expensive!

Many distributors or advocates for these brands will claim that this is because the essential oils are of the highest quality and superior to cheaper brands.

But after conducting hours and hours of research, I have found this to be false.

I used to use and love Young Living essential oils. The day that all changed for me was when I read a blog post titled “The Day Young Living Broke My Heart”.

You can read it here.

This article helped me realize Young Living essential oils weren’t as pure and high quality as they claimed to be. And if that was true, then why in the world was I paying so much money for them?

I am not claiming all Young Living essential oils are adulterated or unpure; I’m just saying they aren’t perfect.

And there are a lot of claims about the purity of the oils made by their distributors that just aren’t true.

So, how do we figure out whether or not an essential brand is good or not?

How to Choose An Essential Oil Brand

I wrote an entire blog post about choosing an essential oil brand. In that post, I outline seven important things to consider when choosing an essential oil company.

You can check them out below.

  1. Plants are harvested from indigenous locations
  2. Plants are organic or wildcrafted
  3. The company uses proper extraction methods
  4. The oils are completely unadulterated
  5. The company provides GC/MS testing reports
  6. The company bottles and labels its oils properly
  7. The company’s essential oils are fairly priced

All the non-MLM essential oil brands I recommend meet all the criteria above. Unfortunately, Young Living does not because they don’t provide their customers with GC/MS testing reports.

I really hope it doesn’t sound like I’m trying to bash Young Living essential oils. I still use many of my Young Living oils and I am obsessed with many of their blends.

I’m just simply trying to share why I stopped recommending them and chose to use non-MLM brands instead.

The Best non-MLM Essential Oil Brands

The brands below are brands I have researched extensively and use daily. This is not an exhaustive list of every good non-MLM essential oil brand.

I am sure there are more out there. I get daily requests to review other essential oil brands that my readers are curious about.

I’ve received requests to review Plant Guru essential oils, Gurunanda essential oils, and several others.

I have plans to try these essential oils and research them to see if they meet the criteria above. I just haven’t gotten around to it, and honestly, I’ve been so happy with the essential oils I have been using I haven’t felt the need to try any others.

But for the sake of my readers, I will definitely do reviews in the future, and if they receive a positive review, they will be added to this list.

Okay, on to the best non-MLM essential oil brands!

Florihana Essential Oils

Florihana essential oils were among the first non-MLM essential oils I fell in love with.

They aren’t very well-known or popular, but they should be! They meet all the criteria above and work and smell amazing.

Florihana was created in 1993. Florihana owns and operates its own distillery. The Florihana distillery is located in the French region of Provence.

Florihana owns a 25-acre organic farm. Some of their plant sources come directly from their own fields, such as wild lavender, thyme, and savory.

Florihana offers almost exclusively organic products that meet the specific standards recognized by the international community.

Their prices are amazing! Just to give you an example, a 15ml bottle of Frankincense from Young Living is $99.34 retail and $75.50 wholesale.

The same exact Frankincense (boswellia carterii) sold by Florihana for the same exact size 15g (15ml and 15g are the same size) is only $30.48.

That is a huge difference! DoTerra’s wholesale price for the same size bottle is $68.

Florihana essential oils can be purchased directly from Florihana. But since the oils will be shipped directly from France, the shipping costs are pretty high. But if you spend $100 or more, shipping is free.

Florihana essential oils can also be purchased in the U.S. from HealthyTraditions.com. This is where I usually purchase them from.

Shipping costs are around $8. If you spend over $100, shipping is usually free. Shipping is also a lot faster when you purchase from HealthyTraditions.com.

They meet all the criteria above, including providing their customers with GC/MS testing reports, and their prices are amazing!

One of my favorite things about Simply Earth is that 13% of their monthly profits are donated to organizations fighting against human trafficking.

You can learn more about that here.

But my absolute favorite thing about Simply Earth essential oils is their essential oil subscription box.

The monthly subscription box contains four full-size, 100% pure essential oils, essential oil recipe cards, and extra items you need to make the recipes. Each box is themed based on the month.

Each Simply Earth subscription box is only $44.99 ($29.99 for new customers). And there is no long-term commitment. You can cancel anytime.

Rocky Mountain Essential Oils

Rocky Mountain essential oils was founded in 2004 by a group of wellness enthusiasts. They have built a very good reputation for themselves over the years.

Rocky Mountain essential oils sells 10 different certified organic essential oils that you can check out here.

They also mention on their website that though these 10 oils are the only ones labeled organic, they require that all of their essential oils come from farms that maintain organic practices and standards.

All of their oils are third-party tested and pass pesticide testing as well.

All of their oils also undergo a sampling process, testing hundreds of samples to find the best essential oils available.

These samples are tested for purity before purchasing from their suppliers. Only oils that are 100% pure and free of synthetics, adulterants, contaminants, and diluents are purchased.

All of the essential oils sold by Rocky Mountain undergo multiple GC/MS testing. And the results are available for their customers on each individual product page.

Rocky Mountain essential oils are a little more expensive than the other brands on this list but still less expensive than the MLM brands.

Rocky Mountain offers free shipping on orders over $25. They also have a rewards program where you can earn points and redeem them for vouchers that can be used to purchase products on their website.

And they also run great sales pretty often. Like, buy one get one free sales, percentage off sales, and gift with purchase sales.

So when you factor in the free shipping, the rewards program, and the sales, it makes purchasing from them worth it. If you shop smart, you can score an awesome deal!

  1. Thank you for this list. I just recently learned about the founder of YL and was appalled so I’m now searching for non MLM companies for the few things that I was buying. YL Oils being one of them. While reading this I wanted to check the prices to see if they are the same as what you mentioned in this article. When logging in I was met with a new customer agreement and it looks like due to legal problems they are changing things up. One of those things are the pricing. As of 6/18/21 Frankincense oil 15ml is now $78.50. There is no more retail/wholesale pricing. Ok, now off to sign up for the Simply Earth subscription box!

  2. If your essential oil company uses pesticides then you are breathing them in with a diffuser or putting them on your skin you are putting those in your body. Either way not good for you.

    1. I 100% agree. That’s why it is so important to choose a brand that runs 3rd party GC/MS testing and gives its customers access to those reports.

  3. I love Florihana as well.
Also, recommend Aromatics International, and Stillpoint Aromatics, both of which are wonderful.
    Aura Cacia is good too.
    Thanks for this great review.
    Anne
