Rocky Mountain Essential Oils Review

I have been using essential oils for quite a few years now. And I’ve tried many different brands over the years. Some good, some not so good.

I had been hearing some really good things about Rocky Mountain essential oils so I decided to give their oils a try. I’ve been really enjoying their oils over the past few months and I thought it was the perfect time to do a full Rocky Mountain essential oils review.

As I mentioned above, I have been using essential oils for a while now and I have done reviews on several other essential oil companies that you can check out below.

Florihana Essential Oils Review

Simply Earth Essential Oils Review

Eden’s Garden Essential Oils Review

A few years ago I was using essential oils from an MLM brand exclusively. I was convinced that they were the best and never really gave any other brands a chance.

But after doing my research I discovered several amazing brands that sell high-quality essential oils at affordable prices.

I now use a variety of brands and I am always on the lookout for different brands to try. I’ve known about Rocky Mountain essential oils for a while now and I get asked often whether or not I recommend them.

I’ve been hesitant to try them though because they are a little expensive. Especially compared to the brands I currently use.

But for my fellow essential oil lover’s sake, I decided to finally try them out so I can make an informed decision about whether or not to recommend them.

So I have been using them for a few months now and I have been really enjoying the oils. They smell amazing and they work great.

But if you have read any of my previous essential oil brand reviews then you know, that is not all it takes to receive my recommendation.

I like to do thorough research into brands and their oils before giving the green light. I believe in order for an essential oil company to be good and worth purchasing from they need to meet the specific criteria below.

  1. Plants are harvested from indigenous locations
  2. Plants are organic or wildcrafted
  3. The company uses proper extraction methods
  4. The oils are completely unadulterated
  5. The company provides GC/MS testing reports
  6. The company bottles and labels its oils properly
  7. The company’s essential oils are fairly priced

So like all my other essential oil reviews, we are going to see if Rocky Mountain essential oils meet the criteria above. But before we dive into this full Rocky Mountain essential oils review let’s talk a little bit more about the company.

Is Rocky Mountain Oils a Good Company?

Rocky Mountain essential oils was founded in 2004 by a group of wellness enthusiasts. They have built a very good reputation for themselves over the years.

I have been using essential oils for over 10 years and I have been active in the essential oil blogging community since 2018 and I have heard nothing but good things about them.

The only reason I haven’t done a Rocky Mountain essential oils review sooner is that, as I mentioned above, they are a bit more pricey than brands like Plant Therapy or Florihana.

But after mentioning Rocky Mountain essential oils in my post about fake essential oil brands you should avoid, I have been receiving an influx of requests to review the brand – so here we are.

Who Owns Rocky Mountain Essential Oils?

Rocky Mountain essential oils is owned by Michael and Phoenix Vincent.

Where are the Plants Grown to Make Their Oils?

The best essential oils come from plants that are grown in their indigenous locations. Although Rocky Mountain essential oils does not own its own farms or operate its own distilleries, they do have direct buying relationships with the most trusted suppliers in the industry.

Their suppliers are required to meet stringent product quality guidelines. On their website, it also states that they procure their essential oils where nature intended to preserve the plants’ natural therapeutic properties.

That sounds to me like they harvest plants that are grown in their indigenous locations. I plan on reaching out to Rocky Mountain essential oils to confirm this.

Are the Plants Used to Make Their Oils Organic or Wildcrafted?

Rocky Mountain essential oils sells 10 different certified organic essential oils that you can check out here.

They also mention on their website that although these 10 oils are the only ones labeled organic, they require that all of their essential oils come from farms that maintain organic practices and standards.

All of their oils are third-party tested and pass pesticide testing as well.

Does Rocky Mountain Oils Use Proper Extraction Methods?

The extraction method is extremely important. The therapeutic benefits of the plant can be destroyed in the extraction process if done improperly. Steam distillation at a very low temperature is best.

The distillation method of each essential oil is listed in the facts section of the product page on the Rocky Mountain essential oils website.

The majority of their oils are extracted using steam distillation with the exception of their citrus oils. Those are cold-pressed which is standard in the industry.

Are Rocky Mountain Oils Pure?

Rocky Mountain essential oils are 100% pure. Some essential oils go through second and third distillations to achieve a desired scent. This can remove the therapeutic benefits of the oil.

But Rocky Mountain essential oils does not do that.

All of their oils undergo a sampling process where they test hundreds of samples to find the best essential oils available.

These samples are tested for purity before purchasing from their suppliers. Only oils that are 100% pure and free of synthetics, adulterants, contaminants, and diluents are purchased.

They also have a 100% satisfaction guarantee that their products are always pure. You can learn more about that here.

Does Rocky Mountain Essential Oils Provide GC/MS Testing Reports?

GC/MS testing can identify if adulteration has happened to the essential oil tested. It is very important that essential oil companies do third-party GC/MS batch testing on all of their essential oils and that they provide their customers with the test results.

I am happy to report the oils sold by Rocky Mountain undergo multiple GC/MS testing. And the results are available for their customers on each individual product page.

Do They Bottle and Label Their Oils Properly?

A tell-tale sign of a bad essential oil company is improper bottling and labeling. Essential oils should be bottled in dark, glass bottles.

The label on the bottle should include at minimum the Latin botanical name of the plant and the country of origin.

Rocky Mountain essential oils are bottled in dark, glass bottles and the labels include both the Latin botanical name of the plant as well as the country of origin.

Are Their Essential Oils Priced Fairly?

This one is actually kind of a hard question to answer. I am all about healthy, toxin-free living on a budget.

There was a time in my life when I spent more money on essential oils than I would like to admit all in the name of toxin-free living.

I was a little irritated with myself when I realized I could have spent way less on essential oils that worked just as well if I would have just done the proper research sooner.

So with that being said, Rocky Mountain essential oils are the most expensive essential oils that I have used in recent years.

Just to give you somewhat of an idea of the price difference, I chose four different essential oils at random and compared the price to some of my favorite brands below.

Lavender essential oil | Rocky Mountain $1.53 per ml, Plant Therapy $.53 per ml

Lemon essential oil | Rocky Mountain $.80 per ml, Simply Earth $.66 per ml

Tea tree essential oil | Rocky Mountain $1.46 per ml, Florihana $.54 per ml

Peppermint essential oil | Rocky Mountain $1.13 per ml, Plant Therapy $.75 per ml

So as you can see there is a pretty large price difference compared to these other brands. But remember you never want to choose an essential oil company based on price alone.

I love Simply Earth, Florihana, and Plant Therapy essential oils. I think they are amazing. But I didn’t start using them just because of their price.

I started using them because they are high-quality oils. Their amazing prices are just an added bonus.

But I do feel like the price difference compared to these other brands is definitely significant. Rocky Mountain oils are just a slightly bit cheaper than oils sold by MLM essential oil companies.

But there are a few things to keep in mind. Rocky Mountain essential oils have a very large selection of essential oils including some amazing blends.

There are quite a few varieties available on the RMO website that are not available for purchase from Simply Earth or Florihana.

And like I just mentioned, Rocky Mountain essential oils have some amazing custom blends that you’re just not going to find anywhere else.

Don’t get me wrong! I love Florihana and Simply Earth! I am just trying to make a point that there are additional reasons someone might decide to purchase oils from Rocky Mountain despite their higher prices.

A few additional perks of purchasing from Rocky Mountain essential oils is that they offer free shipping on orders over $25.

They also have a rewards program where you can earn points and redeem those points for vouchers that can be used to purchase products on their website.

And they also run great sales pretty often. Like buy one get one free sales, percentage off sales, and gift with purchase sales.

So when you factor in the free shipping, the rewards program, and the sales it definitely makes purchasing from them worth it. If you shop smart you can score an awesome deal!

As far as whether or not I think the oils are priced fairly, it is still really hard for me to say. I will just say I do wish the oils were a tad bit more affordable.

But I definitely will be buying from them again. Just only when they are having a sale. That way I can get the most bang for my buck.

Are Rocky Mountain Essential Oils Safe to Ingest?

Like other essential oil brands I’ve done reviews on in the past, Rocky Mountain essential oils will not give the green light on ingesting their essential oils.

But it is not because they don’t think their oils are safe to ingest. It’s because they aren’t sure essential oils, in general, should be ingested.

There is a lot of conflicting information out there about ingesting essential oils. Some say it has many different health benefits and some say it is very dangerous.

I think the essential oil companies that don’t promote ingesting essential oils are very smart. Because if they did promote it they could be sued if someone has a bad reaction to ingesting their oils.

And I think that the brands that do promote it, do it in somewhat of a reckless manner and that is one of the reasons I stopped using a certain brand a few years ago.

Instead, Rocky Mountain essential oils suggest talking to your doctor if you are interested in ingesting their oils.

Is Rocky Mountain Essential Oils an MLM?

Rocky Mountain essential oils is not an MLM company. They are a direct-to-consumer business.

That means there are no middlemen, no monthly or yearly fees, no monthly minimums, and no pressure to buy, sell, or recruit.

You can learn more about what exactly MLM essential oil companies are here.

Is Rocky Mountain Oils Therapeutic Grade?

The term therapeutic grade is used often by MLM essential oil companies. But since there is no organization that oversees the quality of essential oils, ‘therapeutic grade’ is basically just a marketing term.

Essentially, any company can claim their essential oils are therapeutic grade.

Therefore, “therapeutic grade” is not a term you should look for or worry about when looking for an essential oil company.

Instead, look for GC/MS testing reports to ensure the highest quality of the oils.

Rocky Mountain Oils VS DoTerra

So there are a few differences between Rocky Mountain essential oils and Doterra essential oils as far as the companies go.

Doterra is an MLM company and Rocky Mountain essential oils is not.

Rocky Mountains provides its customers with GC/MS testing reports and Doterra does not.

The price of RMO oils and Doterra oils are very similar but RMO oils are a tad bit cheaper. But only if you are a DoTerra member. If you are not, you will have to pay full retail which is going to be a lot more expensive than Rocky Mountain essential oils.

Plus, I believe the additional perks that RMO offers (free shipping, sales, rewards program) are better than the ones DoTerra offers.

As far as the oils themselves, I honestly don’t think anyone would be able to tell the difference between DoTerra oils and RMO oils. They both smell amazing, work great, and are 100% pure.

Rocky Mountain Oils VS Young Living

The differences between Rocky Mountain oils and Young Living are the exact same differences between DoTerra and Rocky Mountain Oils.

Both Rocky Mountain and Young Living sell amazing, high-quality oils but Rocky Mountain oils are a slightly bit cheaper. And once again only if you are a Young Living member.

If you are not a member you will have to pay full retail for their oils which will make them significantly more expensive than Rocky Mountain essential oils.

Also, Young Living is an MLM company and Rocky Mountain is not. Rocky Mountain provides its customers with GC/MS testing reports and Young Living does not.

And once again I believe the perks offered by Rocky Mountain are better than the perks offered by Young Living.

Even though I was enrolled in the essential rewards program offered by Young Living when I was a member and truly loved it at the time, it’s not as good of a deal as the perks offered by Rocky Mountain.

With essential rewards, you have to place a minimum $50 order every month to stay enrolled in the program, and with the RMO rewards program, there is no requirement to purchase anything.

You can order as much as you want or as little as you want, whenever you want.

Young Living offers free shipping only on orders with a minimum 100pv total which is basically equivalent to $100. Rocky Mountain offers free shipping on orders over $25.

Rocky Mountain Oils Starter Kit

Similar to Young Living and Doterra, Rocky Mountain oils also offers a starter kit. It includes 6 highly versatile essential oils. You can purchase it with a diffuser or without.

Best Rocky Mountain Oil Blends

Rocky Mountain essential oils has a very large selection of custom blends. Some of their best-sellers are their Immune Strength blend, Purify blend, and their Breathe Easy blend.

Click here to check out all of their blends.

Other Rocky Mountain Products

Rocky Mountain essential oils also carry a variety of household and personal care products.

I love their Tohi Multi-Purpose Cleaning Concentrate. It reminds me of Young Living’s Thieves cleaner. It cleans great and smells wonderful!

They also carry a few different supplements. I’ve been really wanting to try the Tohi Burst Natural Energy Supplement and the Tohi Nourish Trace Mineral Supplement.

They also carry different carrier oils and essential oil accessories like essential oil diffusers and roller bottles.

Rocky Mountain Oils Review

Well, I guess that wraps up this Rocky Mountain essential oils review. I think that overall Rocky Mountain is an amazing essential oil company and I definitely recommend them.

Yes, their oils are a bit more pricey. But if you take advantage of their sales, rewards program, and free shipping offers you can score a great deal!
