You can check out this post to discover everything we’ve been doing to avoid getting sick.
But just in case one of us does happen to get sick, I’ve decided to stock up on some essential oils for colds. Click here to learn more about essential oils and how they work.
In a nutshell, essential oils are a highly concentrated form of the natural oils in a plant. They have many health and wellness benefits and are a great alternative to many of the toxic products we use every day.

The Dangers of Cold Medicine
Many of the cold medicines prescribed by doctors and available at drugstores are filled with junk such as high fructose corn syrup, parabens, GMO’s, artificial flavors, and colors.
Not to mention that the main active ingredients in cold medicine are drugs. And there are risks and side effects associated with these drugs. So I try my best to avoid using them, especially on my children.
Essential Oils for Colds
Essential oils are a great, non-toxic alternative to cold medicine. They can provide relief from many cold symptoms.
There are sooo many essential oils to choose from but a few are better for colds than others. Below are my must-have essential oils for colds!
1 | Peppermint
Peppermint oil is amazing for headaches. Apply a few diluted drops to your temples for headache relief. It’s also a great natural decongestant.
Diluted peppermint oil can be applied to the chest area or diffused throughout the room to help ease nasal and chest congestion.
Peppermint oil should not be used on children under 30 months of age.
2 | Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus oil is actually used in many existing cough and cold products. And for good reason. It’s amazing!
Eucalyptus oil can help you breathe better by clearing your nasal pathways. It can also help with cough and chest congestion.
Just like peppermint oil, diluted eucalyptus oil can be applied to the chest area or diffused throughout the room to help ease nasal and chest congestion. You can even use peppermint and eucalyptus oil together.
You can click here to learn more about the amazing benefits of eucalyptus oil.
Eucalyptus oil should not be used on children under 6 years of age.

3 | Oregano Oil
Oregano oil is a must-have during the cold and flu season. It’s a great immune boosting essential oil and it can also help to relieve cold and flu symptoms.
The best ways to use oregano oil when you’re sick is by diffusing it or by diluting it and rubbing it on your chest and feet.
Undiluted oregano oil can be very hot so be careful. You can click here to learn more about the health benefits of oregano oil.
4 | Tea Tree
Tea tree oil is antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antiviral, which makes it one of the best essential oils for colds. It can help with chest congestion and coughs.
Similar to the previously mentioned oils, tea tree oil works great when added to the diffuser or when diluted and applied to the chest area.
5 | Rosemary
Rosemary is a wonderful immune boosting essential oil. It can help relieve congestion and fight infection. Rosemary can be added to the diffuser or diluted and rubbed on the chest area.

Eden’s Garden actually has a respiratory kit that includes the best essential oils for colds, flu, and congestion.

It includes Germ Destroyer, Immune Boom, and Sniffle Stopper. Check it out here!
They also have all the blends above available in prediluted roller bottles.
Where Should I Buy Essential Oils?
Please do your research before purchasing essential oils. Not all essential oils are created equal. Many are filled with synthetic chemicals and fillers.
Even essential oils labeled 100% pure. Click here to learn how to choose an essential oil brand.
With that being said, I don’t believe there is only one essential oil company that is superior to all the rest.
After a lot of research and trying many different essential oils, I’ve discovered many essential oil companies that sell high-quality oils.
I love Eden’s Garden, Plant Therapy, Florihana, and Simply Earth. All of these brands have high-quality oils at very affordable prices.
Plant Therapy and Eden’s Garden have amazing blends that can be easily purchased from Amazon. And Florihana is my go-to for single oils.
Florihana Essential Oils
Florihana is an amazing essential oil company that many people don’t know about. Florihana owns and operates their own distillery in France.
They do GCMS batch testing and provide all the technical data and certificates for each oil on their product pages. That’s pretty awesome.
So you don’t have to wonder if your oil is pure. All the info is completely available to you.
You can read my full Florihana essential oils review and discover why I love them so much!
Florihana essential oils can be purchased at HealthyTraditions.com.
