My family and I were sick soooo much last year. It was pretty ridiculous. My kids missed more school last year than any other school year before. When we woke up last Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with the flu I vowed I would never let it happen again. Or at least I would do everything in my power to try to prevent it. Since then I’ve started implementing several different strategies in our home to boost our immune systems (which I’ll be writing a post about soon). One of those strategies is drinking lots of immune boosting smoothies.

Smoothies aren’t just delicious they’re also good for you. Smoothies are full of vitamins and antioxidants. They also help to detox the body. And they’re not just good for your body, they’re also good for you mind. Smoothies boost your brain function and make your mind feel clearer.
Immune Boosting Benefits
Smoothies are wonderful for the immune system. Smoothies are packed with many of the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients your immune system needs to stay strong. And if your kids are picky eaters like mine, smoothies are a great way to ensure they’re getting the nutrition they need.
Not all smoothies are created equal
They’re are so many delicious smoothie recipes on the internet but some are definitely better for your health than others. Especially when it comes to strengthening your immune system. You want to make a smoothie that is high in vitamins A, B2, B6, C, D, and E, and the minerals selenium and zinc. You also want to have a mixture of fruits and leafy greens and use organic ingredients whenever possible.

Below are my (and my kids) 10 favorite immune boosting smoothies. They’re packed with nutrition and they’re super yummy!
Immunity Boosting Smoothie

Immune Boosting Winter Citrus Smoothie
How beautiful is this smoothie? And it’s soooo yummy too! It’s jam packed with vitamin C and antioxidants. Not only is it good for your immune system but it’s also a great energy booster. The recipe can be found over at Half Baked Harvest.
Immune Booster Orange Smoothie
This smoothie is packed with beta carotene and also vitamins A and C. You might be surprised to know this smoothie is made with sweet potatoes. But don’t let that scare you. It’s delicious! It’s also made with cinnamon and ginger which helps to add a yummy, spicy undertone that goes perfect with the sweet potato. You can get the recipe over at Minimalist Baker.

Cold Fighting Smoothie
Finally, an immune boosting smoothie that isn’t orange! Which may mean your kids might be a little hesitant to take a sip. But as far as I’m concerned green juices and smoothies are the best and this one is no exception! Immune Boosting Wild Blueberry Beet Smoothie

Master Immunity Boosting Smoothie
This one isn’t called the master immunity booster for nothing. This smoothie is packed with vitamins, probiotics, minerals and antioxidants. And its not only filled with nutrition it’s quite beautiful as well. It’s almost too beautiful to drink……almost. You can find the view recipe over at The Awesome Green.
The key to making delicious smoothies (aside from using yummy, fresh fruit and veggies) is using a good blender. Not all blenders are created equal. I used to have a cheap $20 blender from Walmart but whenever I would use it to make my kids smoothies they would complain about the unblended fruit chunks. Anyone else’s kids do that or are my kids just ridiculously picky?
But that wasn’t the only problem. Once I started using the blender on an almost daily basis it stopped working. So I started shopping around and I came across a Vitamix blender and I really, really wanted it! But it was way out of my price range. So I did some research and I found this Ninja blender. It was significantly cheaper than the Vitamix and had really good reviews so I gave it a shot. I’ve had it for a few years now and use it almost everyday and it’s still working great. And no chunks!
A good blender can be a bit pricey but you have to look at it as an investment into your health and into your future. When you invest in your health now you’ll save money in the future on medical bills and prescriptions. And you will be able to live a happier, healthier life!
