Your Immune System
The immune system is the body’s defense against infectious organisms and other invaders. When your immune system becomes weakened due to poor nutrition, autoimmune diseases, cancer or some other issue you become more prone to sickness and disease. That is when you have to help your immune system rebuild and grow stronger.
Strengthening Your Immune System
There are many ways to strengthen your immune system. You can start by simply eating healthier, exercising regularly, avoiding alcohol and cigarettes and getting good sleep. But many people don’t realize essential oils can help give your immune system a boost as well.
The power of essential oils
Essential oils are the vital fluids of a plant, shrub, root, herb, flower, seed or tree. They are a highly concentrated form of the natural oils in a plant. The oil inside of a plant operates as the plants immune system. They help protect the plant against predators and disease and they also aid in plant pollination. The oil is essential to the life and health of the plant. You can read more about essential oils and how they work here.
Immune boosting essential oils
Essential oils are great for many things. The immune boosting essential oils below are great for supporting your immune system. They’re a must have in our home all year long, not just during cold and flu season.
Tea tree oil has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. American researchers reported in 1999 that one of the ways tea tree oil helps is by activating white blood cells which are part of the immune system. I like to diffuse it all around the house during cold and flu season and I also add a few drops to my diy all purpose cleaner (recipe coming soon).
Eucalyptus oil is great for supporting your immune system. It is known for its antiviral and antibacterial properties. I add eucalyptus oil to my diffusers through out the fall and winter months. And if you do happen to get sick, eucalyptus oil’s decongestant properties can help to clear your chest. I will be sharing my diy vapor rub using eucalyptus oil soon!
Rosemary oil contains substances that are useful for stimulating the immune system. It also has a high level of antioxidants which can help support your body in fighting infectious diseases. Rosemary is another must have for the diffuser during cold and flu season. I also use it in my immune booster roller bottle blend as well as my diy all purpose cleaner.
They don’t call frankincense the king of essential oils for no reason. Frankincense has sooooo many uses and benefits. Not only is it great for your skin and emotional support but it also boosts and supports your immune system. Frankincense is in my diffuser all the time! I also add it to my immune booster roller bottle blend.
Lemon oil has many detoxifying properties. It also has strong antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. I love to add lemon oil to my diffusers all year long because not only does it diffuse all these amazing properties through out the air but it smells amazing too! I also add lemon to my all purpose cleaner as well as my immune booster roller bottle blend. And for an extra immune boost I like to add a few drops to my water or tea.
If you could only buy one essential oil on this list I would definitely recommend it be oregano oil. It is a very potent oil! Some of its properties include antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and antiseptic. I use oregano oil in all the things! Diffuser, cleaners, roller bottles. I even make my own oregano capsules and ingest it when someone in my house is sick for added protection.
Ginger includes the naturally occurring constituents zingiberene and beta-phellandrene. It can help support your immune system as well as support an overall healthy lifestyle. Ginger is great to add to the diffuser.
Cinnamon bark essential oil is one of the most powerful antibacterial and antivirals among essential oils. If you want to avoid getting sick then you need this oil! I like to diffuse it through out the house as well as add it to my homemade cleaner.
Clove essential oil is one of the most antioxidant substances on earth. It has very strong antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. I love to add clove to the diffuser. It smells so good!
Of course I saved the best for last. I can not live with out this blend. Fighting Five is a blend from Eden’s Garden. It’s just like Thieves from Young Living. But much more affordable. It contains a powerful combination of clove, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary essential oils. I use it in all the things just like oregano oil 🙂
Where to Buy Essential Oils
I used to use Young Living oils exclusively. I’m no longer loyal to just one brand. There are so many amazing essential oil companies out there. I love Eden’s Garden, Plant Therapy, Mountain Rose Herbs and Florihana. And I still buy from Young Living every now and then.
Essential Oil Diffusers
Essential oil diffusers are a must for anyone looking to use essential oils for immune support. I own a few from Young Living that I absolutely love! But I also own a few that I purchased from Amazon and they work great. One is the InnoGear essential oil diffuser an the other is the URPower essential oil diffuser. Both are under $20 and our great beginner diffusers!
