Must Have Essential Oil DIY Recipes for Summer

One more week until the kids are officially on summer break. I can’t believe how fast the school year has flown by! And I can’t believe summer is almost here!

I love summer.

We have had one of the coldest, rainiest (is that a word?) winters and springs that I have ever experienced in Southern California.

And as a born and raised California girl it has kinda felt like torture to me. Some days it feels like summer may never get here.

But I’ve been anxiously waiting and preparing for that California sunshine. I’ve been making summer plans and also making lots of essential oil DIY recipes.

I’ve been trying my best to swap out all those nasty, toxin-filled products we use every summer for natural, DIY versions.

It has been a lot of fun and it has also been keeping me busy while I’ve been cooped up inside during all these rainy days.

Ever since I was diagnosed with Hashimotos last year I’ve been on a journey to eliminate the toxic chemicals from my life and home that have been wreaking havoc on my health.

Creating my own all-natural, DIY products has been the easiest and cheapest way for me to ditch and switch out many of the toxin-filled products I use every day.

I 100% believe eliminating toxic chemicals from your life and home doesn’t have to be hard or expensive.

And I also believe it’s one of the best decisions you can make for your health and the health of your family.

So whether you have been on a long time, natural living journey or you are just starting out, I hope these summertime, essential oil, DIY’s bring you one step closer to living chemical free!

Okay, on to the recipes!

1 | Homemade After Sun Cooling Spray

We’ve all spent a little too much time in the sun without sunscreen on or not enough. And we’ve all paid the price. Sunburns are the worst!

I’ve come home from the beach red as a lobster more times than I would like to admit. Darn those overcast cloudy beach days! They’re so deceiving.

This after-sun cooling spray always comes to the rescue. Not only can it decrease the redness of the burn but it also has a cooling effect that gives you immediate relief. You can get the full recipe here.

2 | Easy Homemade Mosquito Repellent Spray

Summer is a great time for backyard barbecues and camping trips. But it’s also the worst time for bugs especially mosquitoes. They can really ruin a beautiful summer evening.

This DIY bug repellent is awesome. It’s made with peppermint, citronella and lemongrass essential oils.

You have to apply it a little more often than you would a store-bought insect repellent.

But in my opinion, it’s totally worth it. Especially since it’s made with all-natural ingredients. Click here for the recipe!

3 | Diy Sea Salt Hair Spray For Beachy Waves

This is probably my favorite and most used DIY for summer. I love this sea salt hair spray because it gives you beachy waves without having to spend all day at the beach.

Don’t get me wrong! I love the beach. But I don’t want to spend every day there.

I love the beachy hair look and this sea salt spray helps me to achieve that look all year long and it costs pennies to make. Get the full recipe here!

4 | Diy Body Spray With Essential Oils

I don’t know about you but body spray is a must-have for me in the summertime. I take it everywhere I go.

Living in southern California where the summer temperatures often creep into the hundreds, I’m sure you can understand why I find body spray to be such a necessity.

Ever since I started eliminating toxic chemicals from my life I’ve become super sensitive to synthetic fragrances.

I get terrible headaches from them. I recently threw out all my perfumes and store-bought body sprays and started making my own.

I haven’t quite ventured into the world of diy perfumes but I’ve been pretty pleased with my diy body sprays.

They are super simple to make and if you have a lot of different essential oils the scent combinations are endless.

I love them especially in the summertime because they not only “freshen” you up but they also feel so refreshing on super hot days. Check out my diy body spray here!

5 | Bug Bite Roller Blend

If you have little ones that love to play outside in the summer then you need this roller blend.

My kids are constantly forgetting to put on insect repellent. They always come inside from playing with red, itchy bites.

This bug bite roller blend is extremely effective. The essential oils help to reduce redness and itchiness.
