DIY Face Serum Supplies
This diy takes only minutes to create. You’re going to want to make sure you gather all the necessary supplies.

GLASS DROPPER BOTTLE
You always want to use dark, glass containers to store your essential oil diy creations. Dark – because sunlight can damage the oils. Glass – because pure essential oils are very potent and plastic may begin to deteriorate and leach into the essential oils.
As far as size goes, I prefer to use a 2 ounce bottle. A little bit of this stuff goes a long way and a 2 ounce bottle should last quite a while. These are the ones that I use.
CARRIER OIL
When it comes to choosing a carrier oil, you will want to use one that has a very low comedogenic rating. That means it’s less likely to clog your pores. My top three recommendations are below.
Argan Oil | Argan oil has a comedogenic rating of 0 making it perfect for this diy face serum. It’s great for dry skin, aging skin and acne prone skin.
Argan oil is my favorite carrier oil to use on my face. This is the one I use.
You can read more about the skin benefits of argan oil here.
Hemp Seed Oil | Hemp seed oil also has a comedogenic rating of 0. It’s great for mostly all skin types but especially oily skin. Hemp oil is also amazing for aging skin.

Rosehip Seed Oil |Rosehip seed oil has a comedogenic rating of 1. I use this often and have never had an issue with clogged pores.
Rosehip oil is very hydrating. It can help brighten the skin and boost collagen. You can read more about the skin benefits of roseship oil here.
Those are the three carrier oils I recommend. You can choose one or do a combination of two or three based on the needs of your skin. I use argan oil and roseship oil. The exact recipe I use is below.
Whatever you decide to use make sure it’s organic and stay far away from carrier oils like coconut oil or olive oil which have been known to clog pores.

ESSENTIAL OILS
The essential oils I recommend for this diy are below.
Lavender | All skin types
Frankincense | All skin types
Rose | Aging Skin
Tea Tree | Acne prone skin
If you want to learn more about which essential oils are best for the face and why you can read this article.
Just like with the carrier oil you can choose essential oils that best suit your skin type. I personally use all four essential oils above. You can check out the exact recipe I use below.

Where to Buy Essential Oils
The effectiveness of this diy face serum will depend greatly on the quality of essential oils you use.
Not all essential oils are created equally. Many are made with synthetic chemicals and fillers. But don’t let that scare you. There are many different essential oil companies that create high quality oils.
I use essential oils from several different essential oil companies. I love Eden’s Garden, Plant Therapy and Florihana.
Plant Therapy and Eden’s Garden have amazing blends that can be easily purchased from Amazon. And Florihana is my go to for single oils and what I personally use for my diy face serum.

DIY Face Serum Recipe
Like I mentioned earlier, you can customize this homemade face serum recipe to suit your skins specific needs. The exact recipe I use is below.
- 20 drops frankincense
- 15 drops lavender
- 5 drops tea tree
- 5 drops rose
- Fill bottle 2/3 with argan oil
- Fill rest of bottle with rosehip oil
I first add all the essential oils above to the dropper bottle, then I fill the bottle about 2/3 of the way with argan oil and then I fill the rest with rosehip oil.
Mix together thoroughly and you’re all set!
If you decide to customize your own blend, I would stick to the ratios above for a 2 ounce bottle. You can increase the lavender or rose if you like but I wouldn’t add too much more tea tree.
Tea tree has been known to irritate the skin. So if you have never used it on your skin before I suggest starting out with a very small amount. Maybe 2 or 3 drops and increase once you’re sure you won’t have a reaction.
How to Use Homemade Face Serum
I personally only apply this diy face serum at night before bed. I just add about a dime size amount to my palms and gently apply all over my face avoiding the eye area. I have a diy under eye serum that I use for the eye area that you can check out here!
Final Thoughts about Face Serum for Glowing Skin
Make sure to store this in a cool, dark place. If stored properly it should stay fresh for 4-6 months.
If you have oily skin please do not be scared to apply oil to your skin. I used to have ridiculously oily skin and it wasn’t until I actually started cleaning my face with oil and applying this oily face serum that my chronically oily skin actually went away. I’ll be writing a whole blog post about this soon!
And remember, it can take up to 4 weeks to see significant results. If you don’t see a difference in that time you may want to verify your oils are pure and of the highest quality. You can read the posts below to learn how to do that.
