Easy Homemade Immunity Shots

Making immunity shots at home is not only simple and cost-effective but also allows you to customize the ingredients to suit your taste and health needs. Immunity shots are one of my favorite ways to boost my immune system and improve my health in general.

Boosting the immune system naturally is crucial to maintaining optimal health. Homemade immunity shots are a simple yet powerful way to enhance the body’s natural defenses.

Unfortunately, store-bought immunity shots can cost $3-4 per shot, so I have started making my own at home.

Homemade immunity shots are easy to make and significantly cheaper than store-bought immunity shots.

An immunity shot is a very small, potent elixir that is made with fruits, vegetables, and herbs that are rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory properties.

It is a concentrated drink designed to strengthen and support the immune system.

DIY Immunity Shot Ingredients

To make these DIY immunity shots, you will need the following ingredients plus small jars or glasses to store them in. I use these 2-ounce glasses from Amazon. You can use whatever you want. Just make sure they are around 2 ounces and have a lid.

You will also need a juicer or a blender and a nut milk bag. Either one will work. I’ll be sharing the pros and cons of each below.

Oranges

Oranges are very high in vitamin C, which is essential for a healthy immune system.

They also contain beneficial plant compounds such as flavonoids and carotenoids, which help combat oxidative stress and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

Lemons

Lemons also contain a high amount of vitamin C, which, once again, is an essential nutrient that supports the immune system.

Ginger

Ground Black Pepper

I’ve included black pepper in this homemade immunity shot recipe not necessarily for any specific health benefits but because it enhances the absorption of curcumin, the key compound in turmeric.

How to Make Homemade Immunity Shots?

There are two different ways to make these homemade immunity shots. One uses a blender and a nut milk bag, and the other uses a juicer.

Blender vs Juicer

Both methods work great, and both methods have their pros and cons.

A juicer will extract the most juice, but they can be pretty expensive, and if you don’t already have one, they can be a bit of an investment.

They also typically have many pieces and can be a pain to clean.

Blenders, on the other hand, are very affordable and typically require minimal cleanup. However, they produce less juice than juicers.

If you decide to use a blender, you will also need a nut milk bag to squeeze the juice from the pulp. You could use a mesh strainer instead, but I honestly am not a fan of it.

In my experience, using a mesh strainer instead of a nut milk bag is much more work and produces less juice.

My preferred method for making these DIY immunity shots is using my Nutribullet and a nut milk bag. However, you can choose whichever method is most convenient for you.

Both methods require the same amount of ingredients. The exact ingredients are below.

Immunity Shot Recipe

  • 4 navel oranges
  • 2 lemons
  • 1.5 cups of pineapple chunks
  • 1/4 hand of ginger
  • 2-3 inch piece of turmeric root
  • ground pepper (a pinch will be added directly to each shot)

To make these immunity shots, simply start by peeling and cutting the oranges and lemons. Next, peel and chop the ginger and turmeric root. Then, add all of the ingredients (including the pineapple) to the blender or juicer.

I usually buy frozen pineapple chunks from Costco and thaw them in a small bowl in the refrigerator before making these immunity shots rather than purchasing a pineapple and cutting the chunks myself.

But you can do whichever method you prefer.

If you use a juicer, you can simply juice all of the ingredients and then pour the mixture into your 2-ounce glasses.

If you use a blender, you will want to ensure all ingredients are blended thoroughly. Then, place your nut milk bag over a large pitcher and pour the mixture into the nut milk bag.

Strain and squeeze as much liquid as possible out of the nut milk bag. Then, pour the mixture into your 2-ounce glasses.

Add a pinch of ground pepper to each glass, and that is it. You can enjoy it right away or put the lids on and store it in the refrigerator for later.

I prefer to add the pepper directly to the glasses because it doesn’t get disturbed evenly when added directly to the blender.

    5. Cut the pineapple into chunks (not neccessary if you buy precut pineapple)
    6. Add everything to a blender and blend throughly
    7. Place a nut milk bag over a large pitcher and pour the mixture into the nut milk bag
    8. Strain and squeeze as much liquid as possible out of the nut milk bag
    9. Pour the mixture into 2-ounce glasses
    10. Add a pinch of ground pepper directly to each glass
    11. Enjoy right away or put the lids on and store it in the refrigerator for later

  • Shake well before consuming.

How Many Shots Does This Recipe Make?

This recipe will make around six 2-ounce immunity shots. However, the amount you end up with will depend on whether or not you use a blender or a juicer and the size and juiciness of your lemons and oranges.

The juicier, the better!

Of course, the recipe can be easily doubled if you would prefer to make twelve rather than six immunity shots.

Or you can divide the ingredients in half if you prefer to make three immunity shots rather than six.

What Do These Immunity Shots Taste Like?

These immunity shots are potent. They are shots for a reason and not a glass of juice. They pack a punch and are meant to be swigged down quickly.

The orange, lemon, and pineapple are delicious. It’s the ginger and turmeric that make the flavor of these immunity shots a little strong. But they are also what provide so many immune-boosting properties to these immunity shots.

Overall, the flavor is not bad. It really just depends on how you feel about ginger.

If you hate ginger, you won’t love these immunity shots. However, if you love ginger, you’ll probably love them!

Immunity Shot Add-Ins & Variations

There are many different ways that you can change up these immunity shots. They are very customizable.

If you don’t like pineapple, you can add in a few extra oranges instead. The same goes for the orange and lemon. If you don’t like lemons or don’t have one on hand, you can add a few more oranges or more pineapple.

But keep in mind that you will lose the beneficial properties of whichever ingredient you decide to leave out.

You can also use turmeric root powder rather than fresh. However, I 100% recommend fresh over powdered. If you decide to use turmeric root powder, simply add a half teaspoon to each 2-ounce glass.

If you dont like the flavor of these immunity shots, you can add some honey to the recipe to make them a little more palatable.

I highly recommend Manuka honey.

Manuka honey is a type of honey native to New Zealand. It is very high in antibacterial properties, which sets it apart from traditional honey.

Manuka honey also contains anti-inflammatory properties.

However, if you are only concerned with improving the flavor rather than enhancing the health benefits, any honey will do.

I recommend adding a few tablespoons of honey to the already juiced or blended and strained mixture and simply stirring it in.

If your fruits are not juicy enough and you don’t end up with a lot of liquid, you can add 100% pure orange juice, coconut water, or ginger water to the mixture to increase the volume.

Once again, I recommend adding the extra liquid directly to the already juiced or blended and strained mixture and simply stirring it in.

How to Store Homemade Immunity Shots?

These immunity shots can be easily stored in the refrigerator. To prolong their shelf life, you can pour them into ice trays and store them in the freezer.

When you are ready to consume one, take two frozen cubes and place them in a glass in the refrigerator to thaw.

When Do These Homemade Immunity Shots Expire?

Unfortunately, these homemade immunity shots do not last long. If you store them in the refrigerator, they will remain good for 2-3 days.

If you store them in the freezer, they will stay good for 5-8 months or possibly even longer.

The fresher it is, the better it is for you! It will lose some beneficial properties over time if stored in the freezer and even in the refrigerator.

How Much Do Homemade Immunity Shots Cost?

The cost of these homemade immunity shots will vary greatly. It will depend on where you live, where you shop, whether you add extra ingredients, whether you use fresh pineapple rather than frozen, etc.

However, according to my calculations, the immunity shots I made for this post cost around $1.15 each. Keep in mind that I live in California, where grocery prices are pretty high.

Below is the cost breakdown.

  • Turmeric $1.00
  • Pineapple $2.00
  • Black pepper $.40
  • Total $6.93

I was able to make 6 immunity shots for $6.93, which is around $1.15 per shot. Where I live, immunity shots are $3-4 each, so I am saving a significant amount of money by making them at home.
