There are simple things you can do to improve your health. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t strive to achieve more difficult health goals. However, simple healthy habits are a great place to start when trying to live a healthier life.

Simple, healthy habits can improve your health significantly and help motivate you to reach your much bigger health goals in the future.

For the majority of my life, I was extremely unhealthy. I ate tons of junk food, I rarely drank water, I never worked out, and eventually, it all caught up with me.

I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease in 2018. I’m not sure if my bad habits were the cause of my disease, but I definitely know they didn’t help the situation.

I had to make significant changes in my life, which was overwhelming. The one thing that helped me the most was starting with small, easy things and gradually working towards the much more difficult lifestyle changes.

5 Easy Healthy Habits That Will Transform Your Health

So, if you want to live a healthier life but are feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to start, I recommend starting with these five easy healthy habits!

1 | Drink More Water

Drinking more water every day can seriously change your life. It can help increase your energy and help you lose weight.

If you want to start a healthier life, I suggest swapping out soda or coffee for a glass of refreshing water. Try to drink lots of water throughout the day. Most experts recommend drinking half of your body weight in ounces daily.

But remember, the quality of your water matters a lot! Over 300 chemicals and pollutants could possibly contaminate your drinking water. So, you will want to ensure that your drinking water is toxin-free and mineral-rich.

2 | Bask In The Sunshine

Don’t underestimate the power of sunshine! You should spend at least 20-60 minutes sunscreen-free daily, with the sunshine directly on your skin.

When your skin is exposed to the sun, your body creates hormone D (widely known as vitamin D). Hormone D can help improve your mood, boost your immune system, increase your energy, and much more!

And the best part is—it doesn’t cost a thing! Sunshine is 100% free.

As I mentioned earlier, do not underestimate the power of sunshine. It’s very powerful and essential to your well-being. Most people aren’t spending enough time in the sun.

And when they are in the sun, they’re usually covered in sunblock, which blocks the sun from penetrating the skin and prevents hormone D synthesis.

Exposure to sunlight increases the production of serotonin, a hormone that boosts mood and helps you feel calm and focused. This is why sunshine can help combat depression, anxiety, and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

Sunlight helps regulate the body’s internal clock (circadian rhythm), improving sleep quality. Exposure to natural light during the day helps maintain a healthy sleep-wake cycle by boosting daytime alertness and promoting better sleep at night.

Vitamin D from sunlight is crucial in supporting the immune system and helping your body fight infections and illnesses more effectively.

You can read this post, The Power Of The Sun: Healing Benefits Of Sunlight, to learn all about the amazing healing benefits of the sun.

That said, a healthy body will react differently to sun exposure than an unhealthy body.

Diet plays a massive role in one’s ability to sunbathe and not burn.

If you are not used to exposing your skin to the sun without sunscreen, you must do so gradually.

I am not advocating for all-day sun exposure, especially during the hottest part of the day.

It is also extremely important to practice safe sun exposure and heal your body from the inside out so that you can tolerate the sun for extended periods of time.

The sun is an amazing healing modality but also extremely powerful. Like all things, even good things, it’s all about moderation.

I highly recommend reading this article to learn more about safe sun exposure.

3 | Take A Walk

Committing to a rigorous workout routine can scare some people from healthy lifestyles. That’s why it’s best to start with something less challenging when transitioning to living a healthier life.

Walking is one of the most straightforward and accessible forms of physical activity, offering many health benefits for the body and mind.

Regular walking helps lower blood pressure, improve circulation, and reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. It’s a great way to boost heart health without the intensity of vigorous exercise.

Walking, especially in nature, can help reduce stress, anxiety, and feelings of depression by promoting relaxation and increasing levels of serotonin and endorphins (the body’s natural mood enhancers).

Walking can also help increase metabolism, aiding in fat loss and improving the body’s ability to process food and nutrients efficiently.

Commit to walking 30-60 minutes a day. Doing that can lower your blood sugar, increase your energy, boost your immune function, strengthen your heart, and so much more!

And once again, it’s totally free!

4 | Drink Fresh Juice

Drinking fresh juice is an easy way to flood your body with powerful vitamins and minerals. Many of these nutrients can help protect the body from cancer and various inflammatory diseases.

Fresh juices, particularly those from fruits and vegetables rich in prebiotics like apples, bananas, and leafy greens, can support gut health by nourishing beneficial bacteria.

Many vegetables and fruits used in juicing contain polyphenols, flavonoids, and other bioactive compounds with anti-inflammatory properties.

Nutrients like vitamin C, vitamin A, and antioxidants found in juices help support skin health by reducing oxidative stress and promoting collagen production, leading to clearer, more youthful skin.

Of course, you should try to eat lots of fruits and veggies throughout the day, but juicing is a quick and convenient way to get the nutrients your body needs quickly.

I recommend investing in a juicer and making fresh juice whenever possible.

This is the juicer I use and love!

I make juice once a week and store it in the fridge using these glasses. I try to drink a glass a day. I definitely notice a difference in my energy levels when I drink fresh juice.

My homemade juice always consists of spinach, kale, celery, cucumber, parsley, and lemon.

5 | Walk Barefoot

Grounding, also known as earthing, is when you allow your bare skin to come in direct contact with the earth. The simplest way to do this is by walking barefoot in the sand, dirt, or grass.

Grounding can help reduce inflammation by promoting the flow of electrons from the earth into the body. This neutralizes free radicals, a primary cause of inflammation. This can help alleviate chronic pain and inflammatory conditions like arthritis.

Grounding is thought to regulate the body’s circadian rhythm by aligning with the earth’s natural electrical frequencies. This helps promote deeper, more restful sleep and reduces insomnia or sleep disturbances.

Grounding has been shown to help lower cortisol levels (the body’s primary stress hormone), reducing stress, anxiety, and overwhelming feelings. It can promote a sense of calm and relaxation.

I recommend watching this documentary or reading this book to learn all about grounding.

Final Thoughts

Developing simple, healthy habits is the key to living a healthy life. As you develop more of these habits, you will become healthier.

So, to sum it up—drink more water, get sunshine every day, walk daily, drink fresh juice, and allow your bare skin to connect with the earth.

These are all super simple habits that don’t take much time, and four are completely free!

Transitioning to a healthy lifestyle isn’t always easy—believe me, I’ve been there. But it is 100% worth it. I promise!
