DIY Lash Serum with Essential Oils
Want fuller, thicker, longer lashes? Then you need to try this DIY lash growth serum! It only contains three ingredients, and it’s completely toxin-free.
My eyelashes have been struggling for the past several years. Due to my autoimmune disease (you can read more about that here), they were thinning and falling out, and they just looked awful.
I really wanted to try one of those popular lash growth serums, but they were just way too expensive, and the ingredient list kind of freaked me out.

First of all, that’s a ridiculous amount of ingredients! But what’s even more ridiculous is how toxic some of the ingredients are.
Take isopropyl cloprostenate, for example. Isopropyl cloprostenate is a synthetic type of compound known as a prostaglandin analog.
According to the FDA, it can cause side effects like eye irritation, red eyes, blurred vision, inflammation, lid crusting, and cysts.

DIY Lash Growth Serum Ingredients & Supplies
Everything you need to make this DIY lash growth serum is listed in detail below.
Empty Mascara Tube
To make this DIY lash growth serum, you will need an empty mascara tube like this one. Glass is recommended.
Plastic containers should never be used with essential oils.
Pure essential oils are very potent, and the plastic may begin to deteriorate and leach into the essential oils over time.
This is the mascara tube that I use and recommend.
Rosemary Essential Oil
Rosemary essential oil is well known for stimulating hair growth. It strengthens and improves circulation, preventing hair follicles from being starved of blood supply and dying off.
It’s one of the best essential oils for hair growth.
Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender essential oil can help speed up hair growth. It can also keep the hair follicle free from bacteria, which could prevent hair growth.
You can read this article—lavender essential oil uses & benefits—to learn more about lavender essential oil.
Castor Oil
There is a lot of hype about castor oil and its effect on hair growth all over the internet. But I couldn’t find any science-backed evidence proving it can actually make hair grow longer.
However, I have been using castor oil for years, and I’m pretty convinced of its ability to promote hair growth.
I’ve had excellent results with castor oil from my lashes to my brows to the hair on my head, so I had to include it in this DIY!

Small Funnel
A small funnel is recommended for adding the essential oils and castor oil to the mascara tube. The funnel makes it easy and mess-free.
Label (optional)
The label is 100% optional, but it does make this DIY lash growth serum look super cute and, obviously, helps you know what’s in it.
I’ve made one for you that you can download for free below.
The label is formatted to print on the Avery 2x2in labels (#22806). You print, peel from the paper, and stick right on the bottle. You can also print it on regular paper, cut it out, tape it, or glue it on the bottle.

Gently brush your eyelashes with the mascara wand at night before bed. Be very careful to avoid contact with your actual eye.
This can also be applied to your eyebrows as well.
How to Store DIY Lash Growth Serum
Try keeping this DIY lash growth serum in a cool, dark place to maintain potency. Essential oils can go bad if exposed to ultraviolet radiation.
How Long Does it Take to See Results?
It can take up to six weeks to see results, so be patient and consistent. The more often you apply the serum, the sooner you will see results.
Choosing the Right Essential Oils
Not all essential oils are created equal. Many are made with synthetic chemicals and fillers. But don’t let that scare you. There are many different essential oil companies that create high-quality essential oils.
I was pleasantly surprised to discover several brands that sell amazing, high-quality essential oils at very affordable prices.
I regularly use Eden’s Garden, Plant Therapy, and Simply Earth essential oils.
If you decide to buy from Simply Earth, you can use the code HAPPYHEARTFREE to receive a free $45 Simply Earth gift card with the purchase of your first recipe box.
You’ll get the recipe box, the big bonus box, plus a $45 Simply Earth gift card for only $29.99 (new customers only)!!!
