Lavender Essential Oil Uses & Benefits

Lavender essential oil is one of the most versatile essential oils. It is also one of the best essential oils to have in your collection. Keep reading to learn all about the different lavender essential oil uses and benefits.

Lavender essential oil is one of the ultimate, must-have essential oils. This one essential oil can be used for so many different things.

It’s extremely versatile and it smells amazing!

So whether you are brand new to essential oils or you have been using them for years and years, lavender essential oil is an oil you’ll want to make sure you always have on hand.

Lavender essential oil is, of course, made from the lavender plant. It is usually steam distilled from the flowery tops of the plant.

There are several different varieties of lavender. The most popular being lavandula angustifolia, lavandula latifolia, and lavandula x intermedia.

Lavender essential oil has a pleasant floral scent that is very calming.

Lavender Essential Oil Uses & Benefits

So like I mentioned earlier lavender essential oil is highly versatile and can be used for many different things. Below you’ll find some of the most common uses and benefits of lavender essential oil.

1 | Sleep

Lavender essential oil is one of the best essential oils for sleep. There have been many scientific studies done over the years that confirm what many of us lavender loving people already know, lavender is amazing for sleep support!

You can check out a few of the studies below.

There are many different ways to use lavender for sleep support. You can make a sleep roller blend using this sleep roller ball recipe. Simply roll the blend on your spine, wrists, and bottoms of feet before bed.

You can make this DIY sleep pillow spray and spray it on your pillow and blankets before bed.

Or you can just add a few drops of lavender to a bedside diffuser to experience the sleep benefits of lavender essential oil.

2 | Hair

Lavender essential oil is one of the absolute best essential oils for hair growth and thickness. A 2016 study done on mice showed that when lavender oil was applied to mice it made them grow more hair.

For lavender oil to be effective for hair growth it needs to come in direct contact with the skin. I have a DIY hair growth oil recipe that is made with lavender essential oil. You can massage this hair growth oil directly into the scalp.

3 | Acne

Because lavender oil is great at destroying bacteria, it can help to prevent and heal acne breakouts. When applied to the skin it can also reduce inflammation and unclog pores.

You can add a few drops of lavender to your favorite face wash or toner (or both) to experience the acne-fighting benefits of lavender.

4 | Burns

One of my absolute favorite ways to use lavender essential oil is to treat mild skin burns. If you ever burn your hand on a pot or curling iron, first run cold water over the burn for at least a minute, pat dry, and then apply lavender diluted with a bit of coconut oil onto the burn.

It works like magic.

5 | Bug Bites

So you’re probably starting to notice lavender essential oil is amazing for pretty much anything skin related and bug bites are no exception.

Lavender essential oil can provide immediate pain and itch relief associated with bug bites.

6 | Fabric Refresher

Lavender essential oil works great at refreshing linens and clothing. I love to use lavender essential oil to make my homemade fabric refresher spray.

If you have guests coming over to stay and the blankets on your guest bed are clean but could use some refreshing, use the fabric spray to give them that just washed smell!

7 | Air Freshener

One of the easiest ways to use lavender essential oil is as an air freshener. Simply add a few drops to your essential oil diffuser or make a custom room spray.

Lavender pairs really well with lemon, rose, and ylang ylang.

8 | Wrinkles

Once again it is lavender to the rescue when it comes to any skin related issue. Lavender is one of the best essential oils for skin.

Not only is it great at fighting acne, but it is also great at fighting wrinkles. Lavender oil is full of antioxidants which helps protect you from free radicals that can cause aging.

To use this roller blend gently roll directly onto fine lines or age spots and massage in gently. Make sure to only apply to clean, dry skin. 

9 | Perfume

Lavender essential oil is a perfect all-natural perfume. Just add a few dabs to your collarbone and wrists. Not only will you smell amazing but you’ll also experience the relaxing and calming benefits of lavender essential oil.

10 | Anxiety Relief

Because of its relaxing, calming, and grounding effects, lavender is a great natural option for anxiety relief.

Many studies have been done that confirm the anxiety-reducing benefits of lavender essential oil. Research conducted in 2012 explains how lavender aromatherapy impacts the limbic system which helps relieve anxiety.
