AirDoctor Review
The negative effects of poor indoor air quality are often overlooked when it comes to the health of your home and the health of you and your family.
And that is because you can’t see all the tiny particles floating around in the air that you are surrounded by and are inevitably breathing in.

What’s in Your Air?
Even though you cannot see it with the naked eye the air in your home can be filled with various particles such as dust, pollen, endotoxins, pet dander, mycotoxins, mold spores, and so much more.
Many people spend more time indoors than they do outdoors which means constantly breathing in these various toxins which can have a significant impact on your health.
Poor indoor air quality can cause allergies, ear, nose, and throat issues, an increase in autoimmune symptoms, headaches, and more.
The health issues that poor indoor air quality can contribute to depend greatly on the type of contaminants that are in the air.
Contaminants such as pet dander, dust, and pollen typically cause allergy symptoms like sneezing and watery eyes while contaminants such as mold or mycotoxins can cause much more serious health issues such as asthma, extreme fatigue, brain fog, and more.
How to Improve Indoor Air Quality
The good news is there are actually many different ways that you can improve your indoor air quality.
To improve your indoor air quality you should open your windows often and let fresh air in, get rid of excess clutter where dust can easily accumulate, and dust surfaces often.
Also, be sure to use non-toxic cleaners. Cleaning your home with toxic store-bought cleaners is also another way the air in your home can become contaminated.
You can check out my homemade all-purpose cleaner and my DIY glass cleaner if you still need to ditch your toxic household cleaners.
And one of the most effective ways to improve indoor air quality is to invest in an air purifier.
What is an Air Purifier?
An air purifier is a device that uses a fan and a filter to pull in particles and contaminants from the air to essentially purify the air.
Air purifiers are by far one of the best things that you can use to improve the indoor air quality of your home.
If you live in an area that has poor outdoor air quality due to pollution or wildfires you need an air purifier.
An air purifier is also a must for people with pets or seasonal allergies and also for people who suspect they may have a mold issue in their home.
But with all of that being said all air purifiers are not created equal.
I’ve spent a lot of money on air purifiers over the years mainly due to living in Southern California where we are all too often exposed to poor outdoor air quality due to wildfires.
I wanted to ensure the indoor air my family and I were breathing was safe and smoke-free but unfortunately, most of the air purifiers that I purchased were a waste of money.
They either broke after only a few months, were way too loud, or just simply didn’t work well.
But I didn’t give up on my quest to find a powerful, effective, and quiet air purifier and eventually, I discovered the AirDoctor which is what I use now.
I actually have three of them and they are amazing!
What is the AirDoctor?
The AirDoctor is a brand of extremely powerful air purification systems. They have several different models that I’ll explain more about below.
But first I wanted to share a little bit about the different features that are included with each AirDoctor model.
UltraHEPA Filter
The UltraHEPA filter is independently tested and proven to capture 99.99% of airborne particles as small as 0.003 microns in size.
That is 100 times smaller than ordinary HEPA filters!
Dual Action Carbon/Gas Trap/Voc Filter
The dual-action carbon/gas trap/VOC filter removes dangerous ozone, gases, odors, and volatile organic compounds (VOC) like formaldehyde from the air.
Auto-Mode & Air Quality Sensor
Auto-mode uses an air quality sensor to assess the air quality in the room and automatically adjusts the level of filtration. There are three different modes – low speed, medium speed, and maximum speed.
Sealed System
The AirDoctor is a completely airtight, sealed system. All the air that passes through the AirDoctor gets completely filtered.
Change Filter Alert
The AirDoctor has an indicator light that lights up when it is time to replace the filters.
Quiet Performance
The AirDoctor uses whisper jet fans that are 30% quieter than other air purifiers.
Does the AirDoctor Really Work?
Not only have I personally experienced the benefits of the AirDoctor but it has also been tested and proven to actually work.
Third-party lab testing conducted by MRIGlobal showed that the AirDoctor 3000 removed 99.97% of the live SARS-CoV-2 virus from the air in a test chamber.
You can click here to view the lab report.
Third-party lab testing also showed that the AirDoctor 3000 removed 99.99% of tested bacteria & viruses, including H1N1.
You can click here to view that lab report.
And, independent lab testing showed that the AirDoctor 3000 is able to capture airborne particles as small as 0.003 microns in size.
You can click here to learn more about that.
How Does the AirDoctor Work?
The AirDoctor works by using a fan to pull in particles and contaminants from the air which are then filtered through the ultraHEPA filter and the dual-action carbon/gas trap/VOC filter to purify the air.
Does the AirDoctor Detect Mold?
The AirDoctor doesn’t necessarily detect mold specifically. It simply detects any and all contaminants that are in the air. But the AirDoctor will not alert you to what specific contaminants it is detecting.
But it is fully capable of detecting mold and removing it from the air.
Air purifiers like the AirDoctor are an absolute must for anyone who suspects they might be living in a moldy environment.
Does the AirDoctor Remove Dust from the Air?
The AirDoctor is designed to remove all different kinds of contaminants and particles from the air and that definitely includes dust.
It does a very good job of removing dust from the air. I live on an almost completely dirt property and before purchasing my AirDoctors dust would accumulate literally the very next day after I dusted.
I’ve noticed an extreme decrease in dust accumulation since investing in my AirDoctors which makes me very happy.
Personal AirDoctor Review: Why I Love the AirDoctor
I love the AirDoctor for a variety of reasons. As I mentioned previously, I live on a dirt property and the AirDoctor has significantly reduced the dust floating around in my home and accumulating on surfaces.
As I also mentioned earlier, I live in Southern California and we often have wildfires impacting the air quality during different times of the year. I love that the AirDoctor is able to remove smoke and other contaminants from the air in our home.
I have a cat and a dog and I have also noticed a significant decrease in pet odor in my home.
Since getting the AirDoctor my husband and son’s allergies have improved significantly as well which I am pretty sure is due to the decrease of dust, pollen, and pet dander circulating in the air.
I was well aware that different contaminants in the air in our home were impacting my health as well as my family’s but because of my experience with other air purifiers, I was extremely hesitant to purchase the AirDoctor.
But I am so glad I decided to give air purifiers another chance. The AirDoctor was 100% worth the investment.
Also, I forgot to mention how unbelievably quiet the AirDoctor is. When it is on low mode you can hardly hear it at all.
When it detects an increase in contaminants in the air it will switch to medium or maximum speed. Those speeds are significantly louder but unless you have an extreme increase in contaminants those speeds shouldn’t run for very long.
The only time the AirDoctors in my home switch to one of the more powerful modes is when I burn something on the stove or diffuse essential oils too close to the air purifier.
The AirDoctor will remove all particles from the air. So if you like to diffuse essential oils like I do be sure to turn off the air purifier while you are diffusing or move the diffuser a significant distance away from the air purifier.

Which Size is Right For You
The size that is best for you will primarily depend on the size of your home. But how many bedrooms you have in your home and how open your home is also matters.
When it comes to choosing an AirDoctor bigger isn’t necessarily always better. If you have a small house with small rooms and a lot of walls you might want to get several smaller AirDoctors rather than one large one.
On the other hand, if you have a large home with more of an open-concept design a larger AirDoctor like the AirDoctor 5500 would be perfect for your home.
I have a smaller home (1300 square feet) so I decided to get three AirDoctors – an AirDoctor 2000 for one of my son’s rooms, an AirDoctor 3000 for my other son’s room, and an AirDoctor 3000 for the living room.
I would definitely prioritize the rooms that you spend the most time in. Also, keep in mind you can very easily move AirDoctors around from room to room.
I really wanted to get an additional AirDoctor for my bedroom but I couldn’t afford to so instead I just move the AirDoctor from the living room into my bedroom in the morning and put it back in the living room at night before bed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the AirDoctor Come With Filters?
Each AirDoctor model comes with filters.
How Often Do the Filters Need to be Replaced?
The pre-filter should be changed every 6 months and the HEPA filter should be changed once a year.
Keep in mind, if you have very poor indoor air quality the filters may need to be changed more often.
You can vacuum the pre-filter once a month to extend the life of the filter.
How Much Do the Filters Cost?
The prices vary depending on the model you choose. You can click here to view the prices.
The price of the replacement UltraHEPA filter and the dual-action Carbon/Gas Trap/VOC Filter typically range between $45-$125.
You can save money on replacement filters by purchasing combo packs that come with multiple filters.
How Much Electricity Does the AirDoctor Use?
The amount of power the AirDoctor uses and how much it costs to run depends once again on the model you choose. Each AirDoctor is extremely energy efficient.
The AirDoctor 3000 uses 11 watts per hour at the lowest speed and
110 watts per hour at the highest speed.
According to this calculator if you ran the AirDoctor 3000 for 20 hours a day on the lowest speed it would cost you around $9 a year to run.
And if you ran the AirDoctor 3000 for 20 hours a day at the highest speed it would cost you around $96 a year to run.
Can I Leave My AirDoctor on all the Time?
You can leave the AirDoctor on all of the time if you choose to. I personally choose not to run my AirDoctors in the bedrooms at night to avoid excess EMF exposure while we are sleeping.
With that being said, the AirDoctor does not have any WIFI or Bluetooth capabilities and has a very low EMF output.
But I personally like to reduce EMF exposure as much as possible when we are sleeping.
Why are Air Changes Per Hour (ACH) Important When Shopping for an Air Purifier?
Experts recommend at least 4 air changes per hour for optimal removal of airborne particles from the air. The AirDoctor purifiers are powerful enough to clean the air 4 times per hour, or every 15 minutes, for their respective room size coverage to deliver you pure, protected air.
Many air purifiers base their room size coverage on only 1-2 air changes per hour (ACH). It is important to check that an air purifier has a high enough CADR to circulate the air in the room at least four times per hour.
Where to Purchase the AirDoctor
The AirDoctor can be purchased from Amazon, Best Buy, Lowes, Walmart, and more.
But my favorite place to purchase the AirDoctor is from the AirDoctor website and that is because they offer free shipping on all of the AirDoctor models plus shipping is super fast.
If I remember correctly I purchased my AirDoctors on a Friday and received them the following Tuesday.
