Essential Oils

Why I joined Young Living After Years Of Being A Skeptic

I’ve been using essential oils for years. Long before they became trendy and popular like they are today. It all started when I watched an episode of Oprah where she spoke about all the harmful chemicals in our household cleaners. My children were 2 and 3 at the time and it completely freaked me out that every time I thought I was doing something good like cleaning, I was actually exposing by sweet babies to toxic chemicals and carcinogens.

So I started researching online about how I could make safe non-toxic cleaners which led me down a very long rabbit hole and before I knew it I was trying to figure out how I could eliminate every toxin in my home. Because there were a lot!!! Most DIY recipes I came across used essential oils. So without much research or education I purchased some random essential oils from Amazon and started on my oily journey.

Update 4/14/2019: I’m no longer a Young Living member.  After researching other essential oil companies I discovered Florihana, Plant Therapy and Eden’s Garden. They have amazing oils and  they’re a little more affordable than Young Living so those are the oils I’ve been primarily using. But I still use and love Young Living essential oils and stand by everything I wrote in this post.

For years I only used essential oils for DIY cleaning products. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I discovered how many nasty chemicals were hiding in my health and beauty products as well. As I began to switch out some of my beloved beauty products for a DIY, non-toxic version I began to become a bit concerned about the oils I was using. Since these oils would be applied to my skin I needed to make sure they were safe. So I began doing a ton of research on essential oils and what I discovered very quickly was not all oils are created equal. And as I searched for a trustworthy brand with 100% pure high quality oils to purchase from Young Living kept popping up everywhere.

Why I joined Young Living After Years Of Being A Skeptic |

So you might be thinking that’s how my Young Living journey began. Nope, not quite. The moment I discovered Young Living was a multi-level marketing company. I wanted nothing to do with them. I didn’t care how pure and amazing they claimed there oils to be. So I continued with my research and eventually found a company that seemed pretty good. I purchased a whole bunch of oils from them and started to incorporate oils into my daily life. I used them for cleaning, for medicinal purposes, in my beauty products, for sleep support and soooo much more. They seemed to be working okay but as the oils started to become a huge part of my life I couldn’t help but wonder if I made the right choice when it came to the oils I was using.

I couldn’t help but think maybe I judged Young Living a little too harshly simply based on the fact that they were a multi-level marketing company. So I did what I do best and I began doing research on Young Living. I researched the oils. I researched the company. And what I discovered ultimately convinced me to become a Young Living wholesale member.  It wasn’t just one thing that convinced me though. It was eight things. Keep reading to find out what they are.

1 | The Community

You guys, when you join Young Living you not only become a part of a super awesome company but you become a part of an amazing community. One of the disadvantages of the company I used to purchase from is there wasn’t any support. If I had a question about how to use an oil, I was on my own. I had to figure everything out by myself. And because of that so many of my oils just sat on the shelf because I wasn’t exactly sure how to use them. With Young Living there is a vast amount of resources and education material.

When you first start using essential oils it can be a little overwhelming. But that is what your team is there for. They will teach how to use your oils and get the most benefit from them.

2 | Essential Rewards

When I first began using essential oils I was kind of shocked to discover how expensive some oils were. Once I learned how the oils were obtained and the large amount of plant material it took to make one small bottle, I understood why some oils were so expensive. Never the less I needed to figure out a way to continue buying oils without going broke. Young Living’s Essential Rewards program was the answer. Essential Rewards is an awesome monthly subscription wellness box that you customize with Young Living products to be delivered to your door on a specific date you choose. With every Essential Rewards order you earn a percentage back in points which can be redeemed for Young Living products. The percentage you earn back depends on how long you’ve been enrolled in the program. You can also receive additional free products depending on your monthly purchase total. You can learn all about the Essential Rewards program here.

3 | The Business Opportunity

How many products, movies, restaurants and so on, do you recommend to friends and family each month? And how much do you get paid to recommend those things? Absolutely nothing! But if you recommend Young Living products to your friends and family and they make a purchase you will receive a commission. I think that is so cool! The income potential with Young Living is quite impressive too. Check out there income disclosure here. Once you start using essential oils you can’t help but share them with others. You might as well get paid to share, right?

4 | Understanding how a mlm company really works

So I mentioned earlier that the main reason I refused to give Young Living a chance was because they are MLM (multi-level marketing) company. I’ve never been a fan of multi-level marketing companies. I had this false, preconceived notion that they inflated the price of their products so they could afford to pay all their members who were making commission. It wasn’t until I listened to a presentation given by Adam Green on YouTube (you can view it here) that I learned how Young Living truly operated as a business. My mind was completely changed.

One of the main points that convinced me was related to advertising. He explained how most companies pay tons of money for commercials on TV (think about how much money a 30 second super bowl commercial costs) but Young Living doesn’t do that. Therefore, they save a lot of money and instead use that money to pay members who share about the oils with family and friends. If you have preconceived ideas about how mlm companies work, I highly encourage you to listen to the video. He makes several other points that completely shifted my negative view to a positive one.

5 | The oils

Not only are Young Living oils 100% pure but Young Living is the only company with a “Seed to Seal” guarantee which means they ensure the purity of their oils from the planting of the seed to the sealing of the bottle. You can learn more about the seed to seal process here. They never use pesticides on Young Living farms and instead control pests with essential oils. Young Living essential oils do not have any additives and can be taken internally. Young Living oils meet all industry AFNOR and ISO standards and are subjected to isotopic ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS) analysis which determines whether a particular essential oil is naturally sourced or synthetic (created in a lab).

6 | The Blends

When I first started using essential oils I would try to make my own oil blends. Blends are a mix of many different oils in one bottle. Making your own costs a lot of money because you have to buy whole bottles of each individual oil. It also takes time to put them all together in a bottle. Young Living has over 75 unique blends that you can’t find anywhere else. They’ve done all the work for you and for a lot less money compared to making them yourself. Some of my favorite blends are Joy, Endoflex, Thieves (of course), En-R-Gee and Valor.

7 | Young Living’s Non-oil Products

Young Living doesn’t just sell oils. They sell toothpaste, deodorant, make up, diffusers and sooo much more! They sell so many amazing products  that you won’t find anywhere else. These items are non-toxic and made with essential oils. I’m obsessed with their Thieves cleaner and also their Ningxia Red drink. Young Living has made it so simple to start ditching and switching toxins out of your home by creating these products for you. The wholesale membership is 100% worth it just to get a discount on all these wonderful products!

8 | The Company

Young Living is the world leader in essential oils. They began as a small family business over 25 years ago. Young Living owns and operates over 12 farms and distilleries across the globe. And anyone can visit the Young Living farms and participate in the harvest & distillation process. I think that is cool!

Not only is Young Living helping the world become less toxic one home at a time but they also give back on a global scale through the Young Living Foundation. The foundation’s goal is to bring pure essential oils to every home in the world. They’re actively working towards this goal in many different ways, several which include the following……..

  • Donating products to Young Living members holding fundraisers, events to raise awareness, and overseas missions
  • Sponsoring auctions, events, and fundraisers hosted by members
  • Donating to domestic and global organizations
  • Partnering with non-profit organizations from Croatia to Uganda
  • Running the foundation’s flagship project, the Young Living Academy in Chongon, Ecuador.

Young Living Essential oils covers all the administrative costs of the foundation as well. You can learn more about the foundation here.

And don’t even get me started on how generous they are to their members who are actively pursuing the Young Living business opportunity. Not only can you make a significant income with Young Living but they also offer many bonuses and rewards when different ranks are achieved. Such as free products and recognition retreats.

I hope the eight points listed above really help you to see how unique and special Young Living is.  There really isn’t any other essential oil company out there that is like them or has as much to offer.
