What are Essential Oils?

If you are a complete newbie to essential oils I highly encourage you to read this post. In a nutshell, essential oils are a highly concentrated form of the natural oils in a plant. They have many health and wellness benefits and are a great alternative to many of the toxic products we use everyday. They’re a must have for anyone desiring to live a holistic, natural lifestyle.

Where To Begin?

Like I mentioned earlier, essential oils for beginners can be somewhat overwhelming. But don’t let that scare you away. The benefits of essential oils far out weigh the learning curve involved. I recommend starting with a few essential oils that are highly versatile and easy to use. Below is a list of the best essential oils for beginners that I recommend you start with.

The Best Essential Oils For Beginners

Lemon

Lemon is the very first essential oil I ever purchased! It’s highly versatile and can be used for many different things. It can be added to your diffuser to freshen up a room. Lemon essential oil is used in many natural cleaner recipes as well as many beauty product recipes. It can be added to your water for taste and health benefits. And lemon oil is probably most well known for removing sticky residue similar to Goo Gone. But it actually works way better!

Frankincense

Frankincense isn’t called the king of essential oils for no reason. It’s amazing. It has so many health and wellness benefits. Frankincense is great for the skin and hair and that is why it’s used in many beauty product recipes. It can also help to support your immune system. There are so many more uses for frankincense. Like they say when in doubt use frankincense!

Lavender

Lavender is probably my most used and loved essential oil. Not only does it smell soooo good, it’s also amazing for sleep support! Lavender is used in countless diffuser recipes and DIY beauty products. It’s a must-have for essential oil beginners!

Peppermint

Just like the other oils mentioned, peppermint essential oil is extremely versatile! It can be used aromatically, topically, and internally. It’s well known for helping with allergy, digestive, and energy issues. I love to add a drop or two to my coffee for a little energy boost and it tastes yummy too. Everyone should have peppermint in their essential oil collection!

Fighting Five

Fighting Five is an essential oil blend made by Eden’s Garden. It contains a powerful combination of clove bud, lemon, cinnamon leaf, eucalyptus, and rosemary essential oils. It’s most well known for immune support. It’s a highly effective essential oil blend. I add it to my diffusers, I add it to my DIY cleaners, I add it to my tea. I add it to everything!

Where Should I buy Essential Oils?

As essential oils have become increasingly popular over the years they’ve also become much easier to obtain. But do not be deceived. Not all oils are created equal. Many oils being sold today are synthetic. Your body processes synthetic oils as a toxin which does not help your body but actually works against it. So please do your research before purchasing essential oils.

I used to only use Young Living essential oils. And although I absolutely love their oils (and their household, beauty, and health products as well) to be honest, I just couldn’t afford them anymore.

I began researching other essential oil companies and have been pleasantly surprised to discover several other essential oil companies that sell high-quality, 100% pure essential oils at much more affordable prices.

I’ve since used essential oils from Eden’s Garden, Plant Therapy and Florihana and I have been really happy with my experience with these companies and the quality of their oils.

Florihana Essential Oils

But if I had to pick a favorite it would be Florihana. Florihana owns and operates their own distillery in France. They do GCMS batch testing and provide all the technical data and certificates for each oil on their product pages. That’s pretty awesome. So you don’t have to wonder if your oil is pure. All the info is completely available to you.
