How To Save Money On Essential Oils
Love essential oils but feel like you can’t afford them? Essential oils don’t have to cost a fortune. Keep reading to find out how to save money on essential oils.

I have been using essential oils for quite a few years now. I use them everyday and they have helped me eliminate so many toxins in my home.
But there was a time when I almost completely walked away from essential oils. It wasn’t because I didn’t like them. And it wasn’t because they weren’t helping me because they were.
It was because I was going broke!

We had just bought our first house. It was a fixer upper. We were (and are still) in a little over our heads. And the reality of home ownership and all the responsibilities (and bills) it brings was hitting us pretty hard.
I remember getting ready to reorder a bottle of frankincense and having to accept the fact that there was no way I could afford a $80 bottle of essential oil at that point in my life.
Don’t get me wrong. I believe essential oils are an investment into your health just like healthy, organic food is. In our home, we prioritize health over most things.
But when it comes down to buying groceries or buying essential oils, sacrifices have to be made. And you need food to survive.
So I had to face and accept the reality I was living. And that reality was I could no longer afford essential oils at that time in my life.
Which was heartbreaking to me.
Ever since I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s , I had been on a natural healing journey. And a big part of that journey was eliminating the toxic products I had been using for years on my body and in my home.
And like I mentioned earlier, essential oils were helping me do that!
I couldn’t just give them up. I had to figure out a way to keep using essential oils without going broke.
And I’m happy to report I did figure it out.
After a whole lot of research I made some adjustments to how I buy essential oils, where I buy essential oils, and how I use essential oils.
It’s been over a year now since I’ve made these changes and I’ve been able to grow quite the essential oil collection and I’ve saved a ton of money while doing so.
So if you want to know how to save money on essential oils keep reading!
How to Save Money On Essential oils
1 | Do Your Research
Not all essential oil brands are created equal. Some are much better than others. But please don’t believe the lie that the more expensive an oil is, the better is.
That is the mistake I made for so many years. I was convinced that the reason the essential oil brand I was using was so expensive was because it was superior to other (more affordable) essential oil brands.
In my quest to save money on essential oils, I began extensive essential oil research. I learned all about how essential oils are harvested, how they’re distilled, gc/ms testing, proper bottling and labeling techniques, etc.
Through my research I developed a guide for choosing an essential oil brand.
I’ve used this guide to research and review many different essential oil companies. What I found in my research was that there are many affordable, 100% pure, high quality essential oil brands.
What I also found was the brand that I had been using, which was very expensive, actually didn’t meet the criteria I had outlined in my guide for choosing an essential oil brand.
The more I investigated the brand I had been using the more I felt duped. I had spent hundreds of dollars on essential oils that I believed (and had been told) were the best, only to discover that wasn’t true.
Now I primarily use Florihana essential oils, Plant Therapy essential oils, and Simply Earth essential oils.
You can check out my reviews for each company and their oils below.
- Florihana Essential Oils Review
- Plant Therapy Essential Oils Review
- Simply Earth Essential Oils Review
Now a bottle of frankincense costs me around $30 instead of $80. And the oils are just as good if not better!
So if you want to save money on essential oils, stop believing the lie that high quality oils are super expensive, do your research and make the switch!
2 | Don’t Be Brand Loyal
Like I mentioned above, I use several different brands of essential oils. I’m not loyal to just one brand.
Essential oil prices differ depending on which brand you choose. When shopping for oils I usually try to find which one of my favorite brands has the best deal.
Sometimes different companies have special sales going on and you can find a really good deal.
So finding several different brands that you love and trust is also another great way to save money on essential oils.
3 | Use Coupon Codes
Sometimes you can find percentage off coupon codes or free shipping codes that can help you save money.
I usually visit Retailmenot.com before making any online purchases. All you have to do is search the website you plan to shop at and they’ll show you any coupon codes that are available for that store.
Then enter the coupon code at check out to apply the discount.
If you decide to buy from Simply Earth you can use the exclusive code HAPPYHEARTFREE to receive a $40 Simply Earth gift card with the purchase of your first recipe box.
4| Join Reward Programs
Some essential oil companies have reward programs that you can join.
For example, Plant Therapy has a rewards program called PT Perqs and you can earn points every time you shop and redeem them for exclusive discounts.
Click here to learn more about the Plant Therapy reward program.
So check to see if your favorite brand has a rewards program. It’s a great way to get free oils and save money.
5 | Use Cash Back Websites
When shopping online for essential oils, I always check cash back websites like Rakuten or TopCashback before making a purchase.
Cash back websites let you earn cash back for purchases made online.
I never make a purchase online without checking Rakuten or TopCashBack. Over the years I’ve earned over $1200 between the two sites.
Right now you can earn up to 7% in cash back if you visit Topcashback before shopping at Plant Therapy. That’s free money!

6 | Join an Essential Oil Subscription Box Service
Essential oil subscription box services are a great way to get essential oils at a discount. I’ve researched several different subscription box services and the absolute best in my opinion is Simply Earth’s essential oil subscription box.
The monthly recipe box only costs $39.99 and contains 4 full-size, 100% pure essential oils, essential oil recipe cards, and extra items needed to make several essential oil DIY’s.
It’s really a great deal. My September box included the following essential oils:
- Blood Orange 15ml
- Clove Bud 15ml
- Lemon Eucalyptus 15ml
- Defender blend 15ml
Plus, the box included other ingredients and materials to make several non-toxic DIY’s. You can check out the box here.
It is well worth $39.99. Keep in mind if you were to buy all those oils from Young Living or Doterra it would cost you over $70 and that is with their membership discount!
Like I mentioned earlier, if you decide to buy from Simply Earth you can use the code HAPPYHEARTFREE to receive a $40 Simply Earth gift card and a big bonus box with the purchase of your first recipe box.
7 | Use Cash Back Credit Cards
I know not everyone is a fan of credit cards but if you have self control and you pay them off in total each month they can actually make you money.
I have several cash back credit cards that I use to make purchases every month and they pay me back hundreds of dollars each year.
I always pay them off in full every month to avoid interest charges.
You can earn anywhere between 1%-5% cash back on the purchase of your essential oils.
Combine that with coupon codes and cash back websites and you can earn/receive a huge discount on your oils!
My favorite cash back credit cards are the Freedom Unlimited card from Chase and the Blue Cash Everyday card from American Express.
If you sign up for the Freedom Unlimited card from Chase you can earn $200 cash back after you spend $500 in the first three months of opening your account.
8 | Use Essential Oils to Make DIY’s
This is more to do with how essential oils save you money rather that how to save money on essential oils but I thought it was worth mentioning.
If you use your essential oils to create different DIY’s in your home you can save a ton of money.
There are so many things I no longer buy thanks to essential oils.
- candles
- air freshener
- glass cleaner
- dry shampoo
- all purpose cleaner
- face serum
- perfume
- under eye cream
- face cleanser
- and so much more!!!!
I save so much money by not purchasing any of those toxic products anymore. I make my own DIY versions now with essential oils and I don’t miss any of that stuff one bit!
So if you haven’t already, it’s time to start using those oils and ditching and switching out those toxic products. Click here for some DIY inspo!
Not only will your health thank you but your wallet will thank you too 🙂
I really hope these tips help you. It really frustrates me that so many people have to choose between their health and their finances.
I truly believe that everyone should be able to afford and have access to the things that improve their overall wellness.
