Believe it or not, you can get paid to shop online. I’ve been doing it for over 10 years. I think the first thing that crosses most peoples minds when something sounds to good to be true is “what’s the catch?”. And the answer is, there is absolutely no catch. Let me explain.

What’s a cashback website?
A cashback website is a shopping portal. When you access a retailers website through a cashback website and make a purchase, the cashback site earns a commission and shares a small portion of that commission with you. Cashback websites are free to join and don’t require you to enter your credit card information into their website.
How does it work?
You sign up for cashback websites by providing them with your name and address and creating a username and password. Whenever you plan to make a purchase online, you log into the cashback site and search for the retailer you would like to purchase from. The cashback site will provide you with a link that will take you to that retailer. The cashback site then records your visit and issues you cashback for your purchase.
Cashback percentages vary from site to site and change day to day. That’s why I use several cashback sites. Cashback to Sephora might be 3% on one site and 10% on another and those percentages can change the next day.
Most cashback sites offer toolbar’s you can add to your browser to alert you to cashback opportunities. I personally do not use these for several reasons. One reason is, I’m not loyal to just one cashback site because of the varying cash back amounts. And the last thing I want is 5 toolbar’s added to my browser, slowing it down. Which is the second reason. Toolbar’s can sometimes slow down your browser. I prefer to access each site directly when comparing cashback amounts.
Are Cashback sites worth the hassle?
I’ve earned over $1800 shopping online over the years. That’s a lot of money! If you’re not using cash back websites you’re really missing out. There are so many more cashback websites out there now than there were when I first started shopping online. It can be a little overwhelming choosing which ones you want to use. So below I’ve listed the 4 best cashback websites I personally use, trust and recommend.
4 OF THE BEST CASHBACK WEBSITES
If there is any cashback site you’ve already heard of, it’s probably this one. And for good reason. Ebates is one of the oldest cashback sites around. I signed up with them in 2006 and have since earned over $700 with them.
Every 3 months, they will automatically send you a cashback payment via check or PayPal for purchases posted during the previous quarter. But if you’ve earned less than $5.01 for the quarter, they’ll carry over your money to the next quarters check.
Ebates is currently offering a $10 sign up bonus when you use this link and make your first purchase of at least $25. Ebates consistently offers high cashback percentages and I’ve never once had an issue with my cashback earnings posting to my account.
I joined Topcashback in 2014. They’re definitely tied for my favorite cashback site with Ebates. They consistently offer significantly higher cashback percentages than other cashback sites. They claim to be the most generous cashback site and I’d have to agree. I’ve earned over $300 with them.
Once your earnings have posted to your account and been confirmed you can request payout. Just like Ebates they have a $5.01 minimum to receive payment. You can receive your payout via direct deposit, PayPal or gift card. Click here to join.
Shopathome is a cashback site I used to use a lot but don’t use as much anymore. I still think it’s a great site though and highly recommend it. Shopathome also pays you to take surveys on their site as an additional opportunity to add to your earnings. I’ve earned a total of $502.76 with them.
Payments are made for purchases two months after the order date. They schedule payments on the last day of each month. Shopathome has a minimum pay out of $20. They pay via check, PayPal or gift card. Shopathome is currently offering a $10 sign up bonus. You can sign up here.
Upromise is a cashback website that’s not talked about as much as the others. And I’m not sure why. I’ve been a faithful Upromise member since 2009 and I’ve earned over $300 (I’ve earned over a $1000 if you count cashback earnings from their Upromise credit card). Update: As of May 2018 this credit card is no longer available 🙁
In their advertisements they state you can earn cashback for college through their site, but you can actually use your earnings for whatever you like. It doesn’t have to be used on college only. They have over 850 online shopping partners including Sears, Groupon, Staples and more! Upromise offers cashback to retailers that many other cashback sites do not.
You can also link grocery reward cards to you account and earn cashback by making select purchases at the grocery store. And if you link a debit or credit card to your account, you can earn cashback at select restaurants.
If you shop online often and aren’t using cashback sites you’re losing money. And if you combine cashback credit cards with cashback websites when shopping online you can put an even greater percentage of cash back in your wallet. Best cashback credit cards post coming soon! I highly recommend you sign up for these sites ASAP. They’re free to sign up for so you have absolutely nothing to lose.
