Lavender is an extremely versatile essential oil. It’s definitely on my list of must have essential oils for beginners. It helps support blood circulation to the scalp which can promote hair growth and prevent hair loss.
Many shampoos contain peppermint essential oil because it’s amazing for your scalp. Similar to lavender oil, peppermint oil also supports blood circulation to the scalp which helps your hair to grow.
Cedarwood essential oil can stimulate hair follicles as well as improve circulation to the scalp. Notice a reoccurring theme here? That’s because a healthy scalp is vital to hair growth.
Hormones can play a huge part in hair loss for women. Which is why clary sage is a must-have for any woman wanting to grow longer, thicker hair. Clary sage essential oil helps to support your hormones.

Essential oil Scalp Massage for Hair Growth
An essential oil scalp massage is definitely one of the most effective ways to stimulate hair growth. Simply add a few drops of one or several of the essential oils mentioned above to your fingertips. And gently massage your scalp.
Here is a video providing a very helpful demonstration. The coconut oil she uses in the video is optional. I personally don’t recommend using coconut oil on the scalp because it can clog pores which is not good for hair growth.
Essential Oil Hair Mask for Hair Growth
Essential oil hair masks are not only amazing for hair growth but they can also enhance the shine and softness of your hair. I plan on sharing my DIY essential oil hair mask recipe with you guys soon but in the meantime here is one similar to mine that you can try.
I usually apply an essential oil mask once a week before bed. I completely drench my hair with the mask being extra careful to make sure my scalp is fully saturated.
The recipe linked above does use coconut oil. So I would suggest not applying to scalp if you decide to use this recipe.
I leave it on overnight and wash it out in the morning.
Essential Oil Hair Spray For Hair Growth
Here’s a diy hair growth spray recipe you can try. I’ll be sharing my recipe soon. You just spray this all over your hair and gently massage into your scalp. Super easy and it works great!
Apply Essential Oils Directly to scalp
This is the easiest and quickest way to use essential oils for hair growth. And it is just like it sounds. Add a few drops of one of the above mentioned essential oils to your fingertips and massage into scalp. That’s it!
You can use one or all the methods above. They all work great. I especially like the hair mask though because it leaves your hair silky and shiny the next day.
The Best Carrier Oils For Hair Growth
We’ve talked a lot about essential oils but carrier oils can also play a big part in the health of your hair. If you plan on making an essential oil hair mask or using a carrier oil to do an essential oil scalp massage, you’ll need to know which carrier oils are best for hair growth.
There are soooo many carrier oils to choose from. The carrier oils I recommend and use most frequently are listed below.
Castor oil is one of the main ingredients in my essential oil diy hair mask. I know there is a lot of debate over whether or not castor oil actually helps your hair grow. But I’ve seen results from this stuff!
I actually clean my face with castor oiland I’ve seen significant growth in my eyelashes and eyebrows which I attribute to the castor oil.
Jojoba oil is another great carrier oil for hair growth. It helps to clean the scalp and hair follicles. Jojoba oil can dissolve buildup by unclogging the follicles and allowing a clear passageway for strands to grow which will help your hair to grow.
Coconut oil makes an amazing hair mask all by itself. Like I mentioned earlier though I suggest not using coconut oil directly on the scalp as it can clog pores which is not beneficial to hair growth at all. Instead apply it to the bottom half of your hair, paying close attention to your ends.
Where Should I buy Essential Oils For Hair Growth?
Not all essential oils are created equally. Many are made with synthetic chemicals and fillers. But don’t let that scare you. There are many different essential oil companies that create high-quality oils.
If you’re trying to grow out your hair I hope you give essential oils a try. I truly believe you can achieve the same results, if not better, from natural products as you can from chemical, toxin-filled products.
