5 All Natural Dry Shampoos You Need To Try
If I were stranded on a deserted island and I could only pick one beauty product to have with me, it would be dry shampoo. It’s definitely one beauty product I can’t live without. BEAUTY PRODUCT DANGERS

A big part of that journey aside from cleaning up my diet has been eliminating toxic, chemical-filled products from my home. dRY SHAMPOO CAN BE TOXIC
I was super sad to discover my favorite dry shampoo was a 9 on the Think Dirty app. Yikes! Many dry shampoos contain talc which has been linked to respiratory toxicity as well as cancer. Cetrimonium chloride is another ingredient found in dry shampoos and it has been classified by the AFH Library as toxic, irritating and allergenic, not to mention lethal if orally ingested. And if these two ingredients weren’t bad enough many dry shampoos also contain parabens. Parabens are a fragrance ingredient and a preservative. Paraben mimics estrogen, acting as a potential hormone system disruptor.
I could go on and on but you get the idea. Most dry shampoos contain many toxic ingredients. It’s not something you want to be using everyday. But if you’re like me you need your dry shampoo. So I began researching. Determined to find all-natural dry shampoos that worked well. Unfortunately, what I found was many dry shampoos labeled organic or natural were actually filled with toxins.
Think Dirty App
If you don’t have the Think Dirty app yet you need to get it (it’s totally free)! It’s the simplest way to determine whether a product is as natural as it claims to be. Because unfortunately, you cannot trust product labels. All you do is scan the barcode of an item or type the name of the product in the search bar. And it will rate the item from 0 to 10. 0 being the best meaning completely non-toxic and 10 meaning highly toxic and you should throw it in the garbage. Right now!
All Natural Dry Shampoos
After hours of research and months of testing out different dry shampoos, I have found 5 amazing all-natural dry shampoos. And I would love to share them with you so you don’t have to spend as much time as I did hunting them down. So here they are in no particular order.
1 | Hair Growth Stimulating Organic Dry Shampoo
Anyone else obsessed with Etsy like me? They have so many handmade, all-natural, organic beauty products to choose from. Like this amazing dry shampoo! It’s from the Etsy seller named OrganicSkinShop. Its made with organic cacao powder, organic ginger powder, organic corn starch, aluminum-free baking soda, organic rosemary essential oil, and organic peppermint essential oil. The rosemary and peppermint essential oils help to promote hair growth. They have two options available, one for light hair and one for dark hair. This stuff works so well!!!! 2 | Acure Dry Shampoo
I love the Acure brand. They make some great toxin-free hair products and their dry shampoo is no exception. It only contains 6 ingredients which mainly consist of cornstarch, arrowroot powder, baking soda, and essential oils. It’s 100% vegan as well as paraben free, sulfate free, phthalate free, mineral oil free, petrolatum free, silicone free and cruelty free. It gets the job done and smells great. I purchase it from ThriveMarket.com (which I’m obsessed with. I’ll be writing a post all about Thrive Market soon). It’s only 5.99 for a 1.7oz bottle. 3 | Fat & the Moon Lavender & Cocoa Dry Shampoo
Lavender and cocoa………need I say more? This dry shampoo smells lovely and works great. The ingredients are cocoa powder, arrowroot starch, kaolin clay, and lavender essential oil. This dry shampoo works great on light hair as well as dark. It gives great volume and blends into your hair perfectly. It can be purchased on Etsy (love supporting small businesses) for $14.
4 | Drop Dead Gorgeous Dry Shampoo
This dry shampoo contains 8 simple ingredients, rice powder, kaolin clay, charcoal, rose, geranium oil, lavender oil, eucalyptus oil, and peppermint oil. Not only does this dry shampoo reduce oil but it also creates lots of volume and body. It doesn’t contain any parabens, artificial preservatives, synthetic chemicals, or talc. It is 100% vegan and cruelty-free. This can be purchased on Amazon for around $12.
5 | Hair dance volumizing Dry shampoo
I happened to stumble upon this dry shampoo while shopping on Amazon. I couldn’t find it on the Think Dirty app and I had never heard of the brand before. But after checking out the ingredients and reading the reviews I decided to give it a try and I’m really glad I did. This dry shampoo only contains 5 ingredients, rice starch, colloidal oatmeal, silica, lavender oil, and olive leaf.
Silica Controversy
There is some controversy surrounding silica. Silica is one of the most common minerals on earth. You ingest silica when you eat certain fruits and vegetables. The silica in these fruits and veggies helps to keep your joints flexible, your bones and teeth strong and your skin glowing.
But silica is also known to cause silicosis. Silicosis is a lung condition that causes inflammation in the lining of the lung. Over time, lung tissues become thickened and scarred. Pretty scary, right? But the type of silica that causes silicosis is crystalline silica and is only dangerous when you inhale way too much of it. The type of silica used in beauty products is hydrated silica. This is a solid spherical powder that doesn’t interact with your lungs the way that crystalline silica does.
So after doing careful research regarding the use of silica in beauty products, I am convinced the Hair Dance Volumizing Dry Shampoo is safe to use. Which is awesome because it works great! You can get it on Amazon for $10.99.
Dry Shampoo Tips
All but one of the all-natural dry shampoos on this list are in powder form rather than aerosol form which can be an issue for some people. Mainly, because they can be messy and /or leave a powdery residue in your hair. So I wanted to provide you with the best dry shampoo tip I know before ending this post. Apply your dry shampoo the night before! Do not apply it in the morning! This not only ensures you do not get it all over that cute outfit you just put on but it also allows the dry shampoo to fully absorb into your hair overnight. You will wake up with oil-free, voluminous hair without any powdery residue left behind! You’re welcome 😉
