How To Naturally Grow Your Hair Faster
I have always been fascinated by long hair. I admire it on others, and for most of my life, I’ve strived to grow my hair long.
Except for that short phase when I was a teenager. I begged my mom to let me cut my hair short, and she did, and I instantly regretted it.
Some people look great with short hair. I am not one of those people.
Unfortunately, growing long hair isn’t always easy for everyone. Some people really struggle with growing their hair long.
There have definitely been times when it seemed like my hair just wouldn’t grow!
Some of that was due to the excessive damage I caused to my hair with hot tools, bleach, and extensions.
But it also had a lot to do with my thyroid issues as well.

If you suspect you might have an underlying health issue that is preventing your hair from growing, I have some information at the end of this post that will hopefully help you.
So make sure to read to the end.
Over time, I’ve been able to grow my hair long and healthy thanks to the different methods below.
And the best thing is they are all-natural methods!

10 Tips to Grow Your Hair Faster Naturally
To grow long hair fast, you must promote hair growth at the roots and prevent breakage at the ends.
So below are tips and methods to promote hair growth and prevent breakage.
1 | Wash Your Hair Less
Every time you wash your hair, you strip it of its natural oils. These oils help to nourish your hair and keep it healthy.
So, if you want to grow long, healthy hair, you’ll need to wash it less. I know for people with really oily hair, the idea of not washing it every day might sound impossible, but it’s not.
My hair used to be extremely oily, but once I got used to not washing it daily, it became less oily over time.
Washing your hair too much can cause excessive oiliness, so skip the shampoo and give your hair a break.
You can read this post to learn how to wash your hair less & keep your hair looking amazing!
2 | Use Sulfate-Free Shampoo
Sulfates are foaming agents added to shampoo to help loosen the grease and sebum from hair and scalp.
But sulfates can really dry out your hair. They strip your hair of the natural oils that are actually good for your hair and scalp.
So, to prevent breakage and grow long, healthy hair, I recommend switching to a sulfate-free shampoo.
A few of my favorites are Mielle Organics Rosemary Mint Strengthening Shampoo, Acure Ultra Hydrating Shampoo, and 100% Pure Honey and Virgin Coconut Restorative Shampoo.
3 | Use Hair Growth Oil
Hair growth oil is an oil made with carrier oils and essential oils that promote hair growth.
You can check out my homemade hair growth oil if you would like to make your own.
This oil nourishes your locks, prevents breakage, and promotes hair growth at the roots.
If you don’t want to make your own, use a storebought hair growth oil instead. My favorites are Wild Growth hair oil and Mielle Organics rosemary mint scalp & hair strengthening oil.
4 | Use Less Heat
Hot tools like straighteners and curling irons are incredibly damaging to hair. If you want your hair to grow fast, you must reduce curling and straightening it.
You should also blow dry your hair less often. Hot tools are the primary cause of split ends and breakage for most people. Try to eliminate them altogether or only use them once or twice a week.
And if you do use them, always, always, always use a heat protectant.
5 | Trim Your Hair Often
When you’re trying to grow your hair out, the last thing you want to do is cut it, but that is precisely what you need to do if you want long, healthy locks.
Most people struggle to grow long hair because it breaks off at the ends—not because it won’t grow.
Hot tools, over-shampooing, bleaching, or hair dying all cause split ends. Once you have a split end, the hair will continue to split up the hair shaft until it eventually breaks off.
When you trim your hair, you remove the split end, which prevents breakage.
So, try trimming your hair every six weeks, and ask your hairdresser to cut it as little as possible.
You can also buy scissors from your local beauty supply shop and trim your split ends yourself.
Or you can buy a pair on Amazon.
6 | Give Yourself a Scalp Massage
Scalp massages increase hair growth and thickness by stretching the cells of the hair follicle and also by dilating blood vessels beneath the skin.

I like to massage my scalp while applying my DIY hair growth oil. To learn how to do this, watch the video below.
You can also buy scalp massagers on Amazon. Although I haven’t personally tried one, many of them have excellent reviews!
Let me know if you’ve tried any of them and whether or not they have worked.
7 | Eat Healthy
Long, gorgeous hair truly starts on the inside. Eat foods rich in vitamins and minerals—especially vitamins and minerals that are good for your hair.
Eggs are rich in protein and biotin that are great for your hair. Berries are loaded with vitamins that promote hair growth. Avocados are a great source of vitamin E, which may also promote hair growth.

8 | Take Vitamins & Supplements
It is best to get most of the necessary vitamins and minerals from real food, but sometimes that can be difficult—especially if you’re struggling with a deficiency or you have an autoimmune disease.
You may find getting the amounts you need just from food challenging, but good nutrition is crucial to growing your hair out fast.
A few supplements that are really good for hair growth are shilajit, beef liver, and oyster pills.
Collagen powder is also amazing for hair growth! The amino acids in collagen powder help build hair proteins and prevent hair follicle damage.
I just mix a scoop of collagen into my morning coffee or my afternoon protein shake.
You can click here to learn more about the hair growth benefits of collagen.
I love the Perfect Supplements collagen powder and I also love the collagen powder from Thrive Market.
Both are really, really good.
If you’re unfamiliar with Thrive Market, you can read my full Thrive Market review.
Although Thrive Market has a membership fee, their prices are amazing, so it’s worth it!
9 | Use a Wet Brush
You can cause a tremendous amount of breakage when you comb wet hair. The wet brush was designed to reduce breakage while brushing wet hair.
I love my wet brush. It’s made brushing my hair when it’s wet so much easier and gentler on my hair.
10 | Use Fewer Toxic Chemicals
Many hair products contain toxic chemicals. These chemicals can dry the hair and scalp, leading to hair breakage.
I’m a huge advocate for natural living and eliminating toxins from the home. With so many natural hair care products available, there is no reason to use toxin-filled products.
I recommend using natural hair products whenever possible. Some of my favorite natural hair care brands are Acure, Desert Essence, Giovanni, and Avalon Organics.
I also have several DIY hair products that you can make that are 100% natural.
- DIY Dry Shampoo
- Homemade Beachy Wave Spray
- DIY Hair Growth Oil
- Easy DIY Scalp Scrub for Healthy Hair
11 | Use Hair Growth Spray
Hair growth spray is a topical product designed to promote healthier, stronger, and faster hair growth. It typically contains a blend of vitamins, essential oils, and active ingredients that nourish the scalp, improve circulation, and strengthen hair follicles.
You can buy storebought hair growth spray. A few of my favorites are Rapunzel Hair Tonic Spray and Rosemary & Fermented Rice Water Tonic Growth Spray.
You can also make your own, which I highly recommend because it is easy and very affordable.
You can check out my DIY Hair Growth Spray for a simple and very effective recipe.
12 | Use Red Light Therapy
Red light therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses low-level red and near-infrared light to penetrate the skin and promote healing, cell regeneration, and overall wellness.
Red light therapy can stimulate hair follicles and increase blood flow to the scalp, encourage thicker, stronger, and healthier hair, and help combat hair thinning and hair loss (including androgenetic alopecia).
This study done in 2021 concluded that red light therapy was able to regrow hair in patients with androgenetic alopecia.
You can click here to discover more benefits of red light therapy.
I love red light therapy and use my red light therapy device pretty much daily. This is the one that I use. I have had it for years, and I love it!
It is a multiple-wavelength red light panel. It emits four wavelengths—630nm+660nm+830nm+850nm.
It is also ultra-thin and lightweight, making it fantastic for travel and portability. You can click here to check it out.

13 | Use a Shower Filter
The quality of the water that you are washing your hair with can make or break your hair—literally.
Toxic chemicals in the water can coat your hair over time, leaving it extremely dry and brittle, which can then cause it to break off.
You can check the quality of your water by visiting the EWG website.
A shower filter is a great way to ensure you are washing your hair with toxin-free water.
There are many different shower filters available. I’ve used this one from Amazon for years and really like it.
However, one thing to keep in mind about shower filters is that they will not get rid of hard water, and hard water can also cause your hair to become dry and brittle.
You can use these test strips to see if you have hard water.
To my knowledge, the only way to get rid of hard water is by installing a water softener in your home, which can be pretty expensive.
If you have hard water and can’t afford a water softener system, I highly recommend applying an apple cider vinegar rinse to your hair every two weeks or so to remove the buildup.
You can also use a shampoo like this one that is designed to remove and prevent hard water buildup. Just keep in mind that the ingredients in this shampoo are not natural, but this shampoo does work really well!
14 | Address Underlying Health Issues
Underlying health issues can be a major cause of hair loss, as well as hair that just won’t grow.
Long, healthy hair signifies health and vitality, as it requires a balanced lifestyle, nutrition, and a healthy scalp to grow.
If you have tried everything on this list and your hair is still struggling to grow, you might need to make some changes to your diet and lifestyle.
I highly recommend the book Hair Like a Fox: A Bioenergetic View of Pattern Hair Loss by Danny Roddy.
Hair loss is a metabolic issue and this book helps to address hair loss on a cellular level.
I also highly recommend the Freely Rooted course if you want a step-by-step guide to restoring your metabolism.
You can click here to learn more about it.
This course has been instrumental in getting my health back on track and my hair the healthiest it has ever been.
