How To Naturally Grow Your Hair Faster

I have always had a fascination with long hair. I admire it on others and for the most part of my life I’ve strived to grow my own hair long.

Except for that short phase when I was a teenager when I begged my mom too let me cut my hair short and she did and I instantly regretted it.

Some people look great with short hair. I am not one of those people.

Unfortunately growing long hair isn’t always easy for everyone. Some people really struggle with growing out their hair long.

There have definitely been times in my life where it seemed like my hair just wouldn’t grow!

Some of that had to do with excessive damage I was causing to my own hair via hot tools, bleach, and extensions.

But it also had a lot to do with my thyroid issues as well.

But over time I’ve been able to grow my hair long and healthy thanks to the different methods below.

And the best thing is they are all-natural methods!

10 Tips to Grow Your Hair Faster Naturally

In order to grow long hair fast you’ll need to promote hair growth at the roots and also prevent breakage at the ends.

So below are tips and methods to not just promote hair growth but to also prevent breakage.

1 | Wash Your Hair Less

Every time you wash your hair you strip it of its natural oils. These oils help to nourish your hair and keep it healthy.

So if you want to grow long, healthy hair you’ll need to wash your hair less. I know for people with really oily hair the idea of not washing it every day might sound impossible but it’s not.

My hair used to be extremely oily but once I got my hair used to not being washed on a daily basis it actually became less and less oily over time.

Excessively oily hair can actually be a result of washing your hair too much! So skip the shampoo and give your hair a break.

You can read this post to learn how to wash your hair less & keep your hair looking amazing!

2 | Use Sulfate-Free Shampoo

Sulfates are a foaming agent that is added to shampoo to help loosen the grease and sebum from your hair and scalp.

But sulfates can really dry out your hair. They strip your hair of the natural oils that are actually good for your hair and scalp.

So to prevent breakage and grow long, healthy hair I recommend switching to a sulfate-free shampoo.

Some of my favorites are Kiss My Face Whenever ShampooAcure Organics Clarifying Shampoo, and 100% Pure Honey and Virgin Coconut Restorative Shampoo.

3 | Use Hair Growth Oil

Hair growth oil is an oil made with carrier oils and essential oils that promote hair growth.

You can check out my homemade hair growth oil if you would like to make your own.

This oil not only nourishes your locks and prevents breakage but it also promotes hair growth at the roots.

4 | Use Less Heat

Hot tools like straighteners and curling irons are extremely damaging to the hair. If you want your hair to grow fast you’ll need to cut down on curling and straightening your hair.

You’ll also want to blow dry your hair less often as well. These hot tools are the primary cause of split ends and breakage for most people.

Try to eliminate them altogether or only use them once or twice a week.

And if you do use them, always, always, always use a heat protectant.

This one is my favorite!

5 | Trim Your Hair Often

I know when you’re trying to grow your hair out the last thing you want to do is cut it but that is exactly what you need to do if you want long, healthy locks.

Most people struggle to grow long hair because it breaks off at the ends. Not because it won’t grow.

Hot tools, over-shampooing, bleaching, or dying your hair all cause split ends. Once you have a split end the hair will continue to split all the way up the hair shaft and eventually break off.

When you trim your hair you remove the split end which prevents breakage.

So try to trim your hair every 6 weeks. And just have your hairdresser take off as little as possible.

You can also buy a pair of scissors from your local beauty supply shop and trim off your split ends yourself.

Or you can buy a pair on Amazon.

6 | Give yourself a scalp massage

Scalp massages increase hair growth and thickness by stretching the cells of the hair follicle and also by dilating blood vessels beneath the skin.

I like to give myself a scalp massage while applying my DIY hair growth oil. You can watch the video below to learn how to give yourself a scalp massage.

You can also buy scalp massagers on Amazon. I haven’t personally tried these but many of them have amazing reviews!

Let me know if you’ve tried any of them and whether or not they have worked.

7 | Eat Healthy

Long, gorgeous hair truly starts on the inside. Eat foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals. Especially vitamins and minerals that are good for your hair.

Eggs are full of protein and biotin that are great for your hair. Berries are loaded with vitamins that promote hair growth. Avocados are a great source of vitamin e which may also promote hair growth.

8 | Take vitamins & Supplements

I try to get most of my necessary vitamins and minerals from the foods I eat but sometimes that can be kinda difficult.

Especially if your struggling with a deficiency or you have an autoimmune disease. You may find it difficult to get the amounts you need just from food.

And good nutrition is crucial to growing your hair out fast.

Collagen powder is amazing for hair growth! The amino acids in collagen help to build hair proteins and they also prevent hair follicle damage.

I love the collagen peptides from Vital Proteins and I also love the collagen powder from Thrive Market.

Both are really, really good.

If you’re not familiar with Thrive Market you can read my full Thrive Market review.

Although Thrive Market does have a membership fee, their prices are amazing so it’s totally worth it!

I just mix a scoop of collagen into my morning coffee or into my afternoon protein shake.

Biotin is another supplement that is really good for hair growth. Biotin deficiency can actually lead to thinning hair.

So make sure you’re getting enough every day. You can buy a biotin supplement on Amazon.

This is the one I used to use. Check out the reviews on Amazon. There are many people attesting to the hair growth benefits of biotin.

9 | Use a wet brush

You can cause a tremendous amount of breakage when you comb wet hair. The wet brush was designed to reduce breakage while brushing wet hair.

I love my wet brush. It’s made brushing my hair when it’s wet so much easier and gentler on my hair.

10 | Use Fewer Chemicals

Many different hair products are filled with synthetic chemicals. These synthetic chemicals can be extremely drying to the hair and scalp which can lead to hair breakage.

I’m a huge advocate for natural living and eliminating toxins from the home. There are so many natural hair care products available now there is no reason to use chemical-filled products.

I recommend using natural hair products whenever possible. Some of my favorite natural hair care brands are Acure, Desert Essence, Giovanni, and Aubrey Organics.

I also have several DIY’s you can make that are 100% natural.

DIY Dry Shampoo

Homemade Beachy Wave Spray

DIY Hair Grow Oil

Well those are all the things that have helped me grow out my hair fast. It may seem like a lot and a little overwhelming but once you start implementing these things on a daily basis they’ll become second nature.

And remember just like with every other good thing, it takes time and patience. But if you do these things you’ll have long hair before you know it!
